Questions about Grandson's Car Between Pack and Districts

I had built cars about 20+ years ago and had done reasonably well. My boys or boys I helped out always won the pack and 1st or 2nd at districts. We have a pretty good car this year. I had always disassembled and polished the axles between the races but am hesitant to do so because the car ran away from everyone at the pack. What do most guys do?

Also, I have three holes in the bottom of the car for weight adjustment. Should I tape these off?

Lastly, I have always polished the running surface of the wheels with graphite. I'm reading here this is not a good idea, is that now true?

Assuming you are running graphite.... No, do not disassemble.... re-graphite and run.

Yes, cover the holes w/tape

I have never found speed with graphite on wheel running surface, but you will find speed by making sure they are clean.... clean them
