Hello, new member here. I browsed this site and followed many of the tips here to create a car which got my son first place in the Pack! Over 9 heats, our fastest time was 2.275, slowest was 2.293 - wooden track, but I'm not certain of the actual running distance, etc. This was our first year running oil; used graphite in prior years.

So, I came here to ask a question. Pack races were last night, having run the 9 heats. District race is not for another month, so I'm now concerned about the longevity and effectiveness of the oil.

I followed the tips and techniques here, using Jig-a-loo (I'm in Canada and we can get it here) on the axles, waxing the bores, etc. and applied a drop of Krytox 100 to each axle. After last night's races I placed the car in a ziplock back and that is in a solid covered container so it won't get damaged.

Because the next races are a month away, I am assuming that I am going to have to re-apply the oil. But, the axles are glued in and I don't want to remove them and risk messing up the "winning" alignment. So, I'm just trying to figure out how to go about this.

I made the wheel gaps pretty tight, but I think there should be just enough play that I can pull/push back each wheel enough to get a drop of the Krytox on the end of each axle.

But, should I clean it first? Is just working the edge of a soft cloth in there to wipe it enough? I don't know what else I can really do without taking the wheels off.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Okay, thanks. As far as cleaning the treads, I've seen some advocate for a nail buffer, some talk about Magic Eraser (wet, I assume). Thinking nail buffer has more possibility of dirt getting in the bores if I'm not taking the wheels off/re-oiling?
