Realistic times

Ok so if I buy a plug n play block, run cheetah wheels and 92 pro axles, and I do the prep using DD4H products (which I already have) is it realistic that the car will run a sub 3 time? I know practice with prep has lots to do with this as well as the small things like fenders, weight placement and such but in general is this possible

yes. One of the cars I ran my first (and only so far) race was exactly what you described. The reason it didnt go faster was I did not make the gap between the wheels and body tight enough so there is some wiggling as I watched the live feed (i didnt relax the holes enough or cover them up when painting and as such I really had to use some force and light hammering to get them in which didnt help and likely caused problems)

I think it ran 2.98xxxx.....or course I owe 95% of that performance to John' products and the processes detailed here in the forums..... I figure at least 5% was legitimately me being able to follow directions LOL!!!!

Next times will be bending my own axels and tuning (now that I have a tuning board), and then graduating to drilling my own axels whole once I get a bullet and drill press (if my wife lets me buy one!)

At some point id like to take a completely official BSA PW box, and from scratch using only the junk (opps sorry BSA)....parts.....in box (graphite or oil), put together a car that is sub 3. That would be for me a nice achievement.

In the June Championship race, I entered two unique cars in Street Stock Pro class. They should have run in the Amateur class, i.e. I should have entered them under a different name, like OPA4FLAT, since they are strict amateur cars. However, the main purpose was simply to see how well they would do against the "big boys" on a professional track.

4FLAT had an average time of 2.9908 in May, and 3.0086 in the June Championship race. I did not do any re-prepping between the 2 races. It had standard BSA wheel spacing of 4 3/8's and used DD4H Dynasty RageXtreme wheels. Had I performed a re-prep of wheels and axles, it would have averaged under 3 seconds. As it was, it still had a couple of single sub 3 runs.

4FLAT2 had an average time of 2.9989 in the June Championship race. It had a 5 inch wheel spacing with wheels moved to the rear, and it had Dynasty Cheetah wheels. Had it been amateur, it would have placed 21st. It would be legal UNDER some BSA rules, like the Grand Canyon council in Arizona

In both cases, I only prepped the wheels and axles strictly according to the DD4H DVD, mounted the wheels, added rear fenders only, and shipped the cars to Utah. I didn’t even break the cars in with advance test runs.

Both of these cars used the DD4H pre-drilled blocks requiring no tuning, but with canted rears. All four wheels touching the ground.Since they both did so well, especially since each car took me less than a day to complete, I now know it will be an easier way to go next year for my 3 grandchildren, plus several other local boys.

For example, I will now order the Pre-drilled blocks and wheels from DD4H, shape the bodyand give it to the boys to glue the fenders on, paint the car, add any decorations they want, and then I intend to let them prep the wheels and axles under my guidance, mount the wheels and axles, and go race!

Ergo, a winning sub 3 second car.

you may not run sub three on this track ( I guess about 3.28 would be best possible), you will run sub three on Johns track.

I was showing the track he had to run on previously. He set the track record at 3.3323 and might have asked the sub three question thinking about this track.

That would be a fun track to run on too. Do people (like the video I posted) just find a bunch of packs with tracks and hook all together?

The longest track was built by a company in Utah for this event specific. There was lots of carnage from this thing. But was still cool to be part of a world record.

This was a 1 time event. It didn't draw the attention as expected but then again what world record does. I have no idea who is in posession of the track. It was set up at the soccer stadium and was very cool but the track was really not that great. Stay tuned as the Godfather has hinted that he may do something for us that would bring some fun and excitement....

[tr][td]Yes, that is the post. Glad you found it. I tried, but I guess my search capability is about equal to my success in SP

No Problem we work as a team on and off the track to help each other....

TXchemist, we actually busted that record on that same track with a 3.24, but I do not think it was set up the same. Regardless I am thinking on John's track and if it runs sub 3 then it will run plenty fast on our track. My reason for asking is I was considering buying a plug n play and the wheels and axles and just working with that until I got things down and was able to duplicate things over and over. Use the plug n play as a test bed for the wheels and axles to make sure they are at the best and then transfer them to a car with a different set up on weight, fenders wheelbase and such. Kind of like a wheel and axle dyno.

Rpenning1970, good plan. That track probably can never get set up twice the same, the stack of wood under the curve and where it gets placed will make it strange each time.
