Rear fins

Would it ever make sense to use rear guide fins/ pins to keep the rears off the rail?

No. If you build and tune the car correctly it wouldn't be necessary at all. You are meaning guide pins hanging down inside of the rear wheels, correct?

Thanks for responding.

Yes. I read in The PWD times an article where they used bushings, or bearings around the mid section of the car, to keep the rears off the rail to decent effect. If the car were tuned incorrectly would teflon be preferable to the spinning rears hitting?

I am thinking of it more like a last ditch effort instead of the wheels rubbing.

It is probably defeatist thinking though.

Guide pins could work like that, but I don't think they're needed. Like you said it is probably defeatist thinking. Bushings and bearings are against the rules in many classes, even if they're not used in the wheel, just something to consider.

+1 to what Kinser said. If drilled correctly and tuned your rears will never touch.

Anything on the back of the car that touches the rails will just slow you down.
