I've been putting two coats of red rocket in the bores of my wheels but I'm not sure if I'm letting the wax dry long enough between coats.

How long should I wait before applying a second coat of wax? Should I be buffing the bores to a really high shine after the first coat of wax and then buff again after the second coat of wax?

Heck yeah, ya wanna buff.

These guys are secretive with their prep, but I'll give y the inside scoop.
Wait 24 hours if ya can and keep em covered in the meantime.

I prepped a set of wheels in February. I put 3 coats of wax in them. I left them sitting on my desk (uncovered) till Sept. 1. I buffed them out, and guess what.................that is the fastest car I have. I guess 6 to 7 months cure time is good!

Dang! No wonder I am so slow!

Actually, GX, you're prepping for May. /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Nice! Your car will be like Clark Griswold's sled.

KGL, there's many ways you can prep your wheels. There's a cure time theory, different products theory, application theory, weight placement theory. There's lots of different ways to do things with these little cars. One thing I can tell you is make 1 car and note everything you do. A good baseline is just follow john's DVD to the T. That's your baseline. From there make 1 change at a time per race. It may work, may not work. I've been told by a few wise men on here, the more changes you make at one time, you wont know what's working or not working.

Funny if you look at my SS last month and this month the name is SMA#. Stands for Scientific Method Attempt #. This month it #2. We'll see if it any faster.

For your 3 coats of wax (what wax?) - how long between those 3 coats did you wait before the next one and did you do any buffing between those coats? Did you buff out the last coat at all after drying or just wait for the 6 to 7 months before buffing the last coat?

I once had an interesting experience with Liquid Glass - I applied it and left in my dehydrator overnight by mistake and was unable to buff it out to a smooth finish because I think it got too hard to respond to my pipe cleaner buffing action. I could not get it to smooth out.

To bad this tread died out. Are guys letting the wax or red rocket or whatever set up overnight before buffing? It's a lot harder to remove after it cures, I'd think you would have inconsistent layers in your bore like that??

Cool thanks Rocket. I've been following that pretty close, usually around 10 - 15, it clearly looks dry. I was watching someone's video and they recommended letting sit for as long as overnight to be sure it was dry and then polish which seemed crazy long so I wanted to ask.

Just follow the directions that John sends with the Red Rocket. The dry times are spelled out in the directions.

Has anyone used Red Rocket on axles? After the wet/dry sandpaper and polishing steps, apply the RR to the axles and buff to a high shine?

Jig is not available in the hardware stores, and other sprays I've tried don't seem to dry,

John sells an axle polish, which I don't think is a wax. I believe this serves as a basecoat to the Jig anyhow. I believe there is an alternative to which has been mentioned here in the forum. I can't think of the name of it, I want to to say Dupont something or another, name escapes me right now.

Thanks tmeyer but the instructions in the vid also say not to use jig... I have the instructions for the Red Rocket but wanted to ask around.
