Sand Scratches

I looked for prior posts on this but couldn't find anything on it....

I can still see fine sand scratches when looking at my axles at an angle with a jewelers loop. They are still super shiny though. If I look at them straight on I don't see them. I haven't really noticed before on any axles I prepped before this year but I don't know if I looked at them at an angle.

Here's what I did the 92's and the stock axle we used for the scout race

Wet sand with 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 grit paper for about 20 sec each at @1500RPM. Then I apply cheetah kiss axle polish with a leather strip, clean with a cotton string, clean with Windex.

With this process should I see those scratches? If not any suggestions on where I went wrong.

I am no where near being fast but here is my sanding process so far:

All at 3k rpm

600--10-15s
1k--20s
2k--20s
4k--25s
6k--25s
12k--30s
axle polish stroped on leather.

I also clean the axle between each grit with a dry rag

I'm thinking the string might be the problem. I will try just using a rag and cleaning in between each grit.

Thanks

not sure string is the problem, I think a little more time at the rpm's that you are running and a higher grit than 3000 might be necessary as well.
