My SB came with a 2 3/4 inch long 1/8 HSS guide pin. I would to find one that is 5 to 6" long so
it fits close to the length of the SB. I've looked on line and the shipping for one is about twice the cost of one. Has anyone found a good source for a longer pin or are folks using 2 short pins one on each end?

I use a 12" x 1/8" Milwaukee "aircraft length " drill bit I found at Home Depot for a couple bucks. I dremeled off the fluted portion leaving only the shank.

The long pins that I trust most are reamer blanks, at least then you are getting something for your shipping /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

I had bought a variety of blanks and pin gauges to give me flexibility with the SB. Shipping is also something to pay attention to. My best "free" shipping source for various type of bits and blanks is Amazon, though you pay plenty for Prime membership.

In addition to those mentioned, some other names to check are:
Discount-Tool.com, Toolsavings.com, moderntoolsupply.com, michigandrill.com, suncoasttools.com. May have to verify exact URLs. Don't ignore eBay also, you never know.

Also, another route is to order through a local industrial supply company. To my amazement I have ordered size specific Vermont Gage pins and a few other items from that at list (cheap) prices and not had to pay any shipping. I have to submit my list to the company and pick the parts up at their warehouse, but it's worth it for the savings.
