Silver Bullet Pro W/ #44 Drill Bit

I was all set to pull the trigger on the SB Pro and realized the bushings are set up for a #43 bit, but BSA axles (I have to use BSA axles) should use a #44 bit. Is the .003 slop using a #44 bit in the jig going to negate the precision advantage of the SB Pro?

Are there bushings available for the #44 bit?

A suggestion for the next round of SB Pro's to go into production is to add a third hole with a 1 1/2 degree cant for those that have to run 4 wheels touching.

I have the same restrictions with the BSA axles. I have not had any issues with using the #43 bit with the stock axles. I have not experienced any looseness but if there were, you can use a drop of water to tighten up the holes or some Elmer's glue.

The BSA axles fit in a #43 hole just fine. Just find the bigger ones. They are all sizes.

Boy is that true. I bought 60 BSA axles in bulk a while back. The sizes ranged from 0.084 to 0.090.

I agree... I drilled 70+ blocks with this SB Pro last month with a #43 drill bit and they all used BSA axles... I didn't hear one word about loose axles.

Even if the holes did end up a little loose for the axles, it would be far better to snug up those holes than to introduce slop by using a #44 with the drill jig.

Also, adding another hole to the SB pro would increase the cost quite a bit, due to the expense of the hardened bushings.

Yep, go with the 43 bit. We just use a bit of wood glue to firmly hold the BSA axles.

This is what I did. The axels did feel a bit lose but they snugged up nicely with a bit of glue on a toothpick. Stay with the #43.
