There had been talk of a rules change before the 2014 National Championships.
The rules are still showing 1:25 scale only and only Revell or AMT.

Are we going to open up the models to other brands (Monogram [sister to Revell], Ertl, MPC, Polar Lights [sisters to AMT], and the Japanese brands [Tamiya, Aoshima, etc])?

Are we opening it up to 1:24 scale as long as the model meets the dimension rules of 8.25"?

(Since the rules haven't yet been rewritten, I'm trying to subtly push for opening it up to other brands since the "sister" brands share molds and are, for all intents and purposes, the same model) /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif

Then why worry about it? Just get it in the mold that's legal. I really never wanted this can of worms opened. If you don't believe me, just wait and see if the rules get changed.

I doubt it will change from AMT Revell to open at this time already seeing that we are just 2 weeks or so...but having said that I recently saw some Tamiya car models at my local hobby shop that would meet all the specs that were pretty darn sweet from an import car model style point of view!!!! Maybe in the future....might be cool to see all the different types of cars people come up with to run in SR! American Muscle versus imports .... id be even more visually awesome if people painted and decorated their cars to match the typical picture on the boxes .... how cool would that look going down a track! It would take a lot of time though......

How about a once a year race where the final winner is based both on speed down the track as well as points (or say subtraction of certain amounts of time) for looks and show! Standardizing it might be hard or figuring out how to judge it, but if there was interest I bet youd see some really really nice cars based on how good the builders we already have here are....

Thanks, John (et. al) I didn't know that the rule set on PinewoodDerbyChampionships.com would be different from NPWDRL.com (even momentarily). Then again, I never thought about there being a second site to check. Why the separate site?

I know that this is a source of irritation for you, Chris, so I'm sorry to keep picking at that scab.

My point is only that a kit is a kit, and that the AMT/Revell limitation is simply an unnecessary hurdle. While the brands do share molds, they don't share all the molds at the same time. If I were to send in a Monogram car, no one would notice. But *I* would know that I have broken the rules.

Why limit it?

(I'm done. You can now angrily grab a band-aid and slap it on.)

They are separate events. This class is supposed to be a break from the norm. I have received a lot of calls and I am making an official change to the rules. There is no way we can know for sure who the official manufacturer is so i am removing the brand restrictions. Sorry for the last minute notice but we want participation. STILL NO LEXAN SLOT CAR BODIES though.

Thanks for the clarification, John. Still confused about them being separate events, but I understand.

And thanks for the info on the rules change. Personally, I think it makes a lot of sense, and definitely falls under the idea of having rules that are enforceable.
