It seems to me that the underlying rules are the same for SS and SR, but SR needs to have a big body covering the top. If we are trying to make the cars so thin for SS and it has been shown how a thicker car affects speed, then how is it that a large plastic body on the SR have a similar track record to SS? What am I missing?

Isn't the weight at 6 oz for SR? Could that account for the similarity in speed?

This is correct. Also, the length can go up to 8.25" (if you find a long enough model), so this is another boost to the potential energy of the cars.

The sr's run the outside lanes only as well.

Yeah, I get the reason for this, but I personally find it amusing to watch those bulky cars give each other fits with all of the wind they make. /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Probably would feel differently if I actually built/raced in the class. /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

Not just the wind, some of the cars were so wide they touched I think. Rubbin' ain't racing in the PWD!

Fun cars to build though!

It was probably the most fun build I have had, but it is time consuming. Ran my first SR at MA and realized there is a lot to learn. But I am slowly building another, which will be far more competitive (at least from my point of view). I do not think BaBoom has anything to worry about just yet. /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif
