A few months ago, my son entered his first pinewood derby. I’d never built a pinewood derby car and have no experience with that sort of thing. Using this forum as a guide, we built what we believed would be a pretty respectable car.

On race day, I came on here to ask for some last minute advice. Due to a cheap scale that I had purchased, my car was significantly over weight. I got some great advice, and with a shoe box full of tools, we finally handed over what may have been the most jacked up looking entry of them all. All of the paint had been sanded off and the car was riddled with drill holes. We covered the drill holes with packaging tape, and hopelessly handed it over.

Aesthetics aside, we won our pack’s race. Due to a previously scheduled ski trip, we didn’t think we were going to be able to race in the council championship.

Unfortunately, my son broke his clavicle, so we were back in town early around midnight on the night before the council championship. Last minute, we decided to enter. We woke up at 5:45 am to make it to the event in time and to enter our car.

My son placed 2nd in the council championship. It was a pretty big pick-me-up for my son who was pretty bummed about breaking his clavicle. Couldn’t have done it without the selfless advice of you guys.

Thank you!

Congrats! Thats the stuff that makes this PWD thing sooo much FUN!!
Keep building and keep racin.
