We made two graphite tribute cars to run in the MA race in honor of my 12 year old Son Jacob Tomasovic. Jacob passed away on July 15, 2015 from brain cancer. Jacob was diagnosed with Choroid Plexus Carcinoma at the age of 2. He was in remission for 8 years until he developed an unstoppable Glioblastoma. He passed 3 weeks later at home in his bed. It was strange how Jacob knew what was happening and he never really had a major breakdown. He just took it like a Champion. I am still in amazement of him. I will never be as strong or as faithful as he is.
Jacob loved the PWD. Given his mental and physical disabilities, it was the one thing we could do together where he could win. We started winning after I found this forum and obtained advice from a few Pro's namely Bracketracer, Maglev, Spirit and GravityX.
Jacob's most significant win was a sub 3 graphite car he ran at the New Horizons District race in 2014. Jacob won second place in the entire district with his brother Brad in fourth! Jacob's car was actually the fastest "graphite" car at this race but we won't gripe about that! Jacob also did well in 2014 at the MA. He got 4th in Webelos graphite and 6th in open graphite scout division. When I told him he got 4th and 6th, he said "Better Luck Next Time". I had to laugh and explain that he was very lucky to receive 4th and 6th at such a big race.
As part of the tribute car effort Bracketracer and GravityX donated MA wheels, axles and wheel covers for Jacob's tribute cars. I am certainly impressed with the machinist and engineering skills Stephen and Paul have. Paul made wheel covers that had perfectly tight tolerances with a perfect fit for Stephen's wheels. I picked up about .005 with the wheel covers. Thank you Stephen and Paul.
The first car titled "On Eagle's Wings" has full fenders and a decal of an soaring eagle. Unfortunately, I think I didn't get the optimal drill on this car as it is not as fast as I had hoped it would be.
The second car is titled "Better Luck Next Time" in memory of Jacob's response to winning 4th and 6th at the 2014 MA. It has good speed. It is a trainwheel style car with 3 wheels on one side. Hopefully it will place but if it doesn't that is okay.
I tried to post pics from photobucket but they didn't upload. I will try again this evening.
