Thinking of starting another addiction

So it has been years since my last pwd race. I help my son build a car and walk into the building for the race. There is an aluminum track with an electronic timer and replay screen attached! Whaaat? This is nothing like I remember. It looks like it might be fun. Anyway, after looking at some races posted on YouTube by derbydad4hire and reading through many posts on this forum, I think I would like to try it. Obviously new to this, I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone would be kind enough to answer?

First since I have never raced using oil, I was wondering if the video about unlocking secrets of oil would be a useful investment. I am sure it has some useful information but it is dated 2010 and I have read at least one post on here that says one of the recommended items in the video is no longer available. I appreciate when someone shares information that has brought success and am willing to pay a bit for the information. Just don't want to be frustrated spending time looking for things that may no longer be available.

Lastly, will probably start in the BASX class. It looks relatively inexpensive to start, of course that's what I said when I started fly tying 20 years and thousands of dollars ago. I was wondering if the fingernail polish trick on the DFW really works? And more importantly, for BASX, is it even legal? Just want to be sure to follow rules.

Hey, Welcome to the forum! Yes this is addicting! Yes it is a blast. You should get the DD4H dvd, the product that is no longer has a substitute called Jig-a-loo that is available. This is the base that is a must to learn the oil process plus a bunch more info on the video. You're quite lucky you found this site before spending a bunch of money on gimmick tools. This is a great place to learn the right way to get fast! NPWDRL is a great place to race adult league PWD. The pros here will coach you down the right side of the track, welcome.

All you need to know. Yes it does work, but there are other faster options. The fingernail polish trick is more of a scout trick than NPWDRL. But work with what you have and you'll find ways to get fast.

Nail polish is mainly to substitute for "no washers" rules that are common in scout rules.
