Gentlemen of the fourm,

I posted about a week ago under the following post. First time racer tiger cub. Week to go just looking for some speed help. Based on all your guys help My tiger cub wound up in Third place got a trophy and is headed to the district race in about a month. We had a real tight competition. Last years pack winner also won the district. He come out on top again but it was super close. Four runs total time for my guy was 11.7012(average of 2.9253, he posted a fastest of a 2.9174(I think 2.91 for sure) The track I think is a forty foot one and its wood. Since this was our first time these seem like really good times but I really don't know. I do know districts looks promising. My guy says to me can we make the car faster? So its back to the drawing board and seeing what we can do for districts. Based on the times tonight all the top 4 cars were faster then last years district winner(which again was from our pack)

So I am back to the drawing board. For those of you on the other thread I have a lot to fix. Matched wheels I had 6's and 7's for front and back. I did run the wheels in the slots and I did have it rail running but the rear axels were straight. HIs center of mass was off. like 1.5 inches or more infront of rear axel. So I think we got some things to improve. I m hoping we can get faster and do even better at district. We learned a lot about friction, physics, three wheel running and rail running and kinetic energy. etc. More importantly myself and two sons got to spend some time together and have a great night. btw I raced in the adult race and was first going away. I was also faster then the pack champion but I did get beat by the pack champs sister. We run a sibling race and a parent race for fun as well.

Mainly a HUGE THANK TO EVERYONE ON HERE. Without your knowledge and help I don't think we would have placed where we did. I have to encourage anyone to do these races we have had 34 kids racing tonight and I don't think there was one kid who didn't have a great night a lot of laughs fun and good times racing.

Thanks again

Well congrats to you and your son!!!

That is cool going to districts... Your in the right spot for help!!! These folks here can help guide you further..Is it possible to post a picture of the car a so they can make suggestions to help tour boy move up at districts... This time is so exciting right now...

Congratulations on qualifying for Districts! It looks like you may have a little work cut out for yourself. Perseverance will net you a win.

Tighten up on the COM a little, 5/8"- 3/4" works well, it's like putting a bigger engine in the car, over the 1-1/2" COM you now have.

Like the other two posts can we get some pics?

Thanks guys I will post a picture beginning of the week when I home and have the time. My boy is still talking about it 24 hours later /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Ok guys here is what we have. My guy picked out how he wanted it to look so that is the shape. He wants to win and wanted a fast car but I left the choice of how it looked up to him. That is also why the lego head and helmut and lasers/guns(depends on when you ask him keeps changing)

Open to suggestions. Should I just bite the bullet and buy a silver bullet block now. I am guessing it will be used for several years to come. His younger brother wants to be a cub scout too and will start in 2 years. Course he already built his first car with me this year. Going to get a set of matched wheels for sure.

Ok that's it for now. Did I mention regardless of how serious you get into this you cant go wrong with the kids and how much fun they have. My guy won his first heat and even if he didn't do anything beyond that he was thrilled with just that. Regardless of how he does in year to come we made some great memories as a family doing this....Doesn't get any better then that.

Don't stand behind a short stop section. LOL Great looking car.

That's the whole point. Congrats on family time.

I also am waiting for the district rules to see what I am allowed to do to the car. I am assuming we are allowed to modify and work on it. But till I know for sure I wont touch it. I don't want to see him not be able to race because we altered the car.

Lol...yea might not want to grab the car if it flew off either....didn't really think about that /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Derbydad,

No I didn't cant the rear wheels, I was too chicken to do it on his car. Also we didn't shave off the 1/16 of an inch of the one side. I did make sure the wheels wouldn't contact though we spent time checking the gap to make sure they couldn't touch. on mine I canted a little bit and bent the front axel and my car did run faster then his. so that may have made the difference

Ok looks like we can work on the car and make corrections only main rule is that it must be the same car. ie no building a new car completely.

So here is my main question from reading the rules It appears that I can not shave off the 1/16 inch of the fdw side per the rules. Do I still go ahead and cant the real wheels and do the rail riding...seems to me yes. We have been fiddling with the car daily and learning and deciding what to do and that is one of the last questions. Anything else you guys think shout it out. I just want him to have the best chance he can at districts.

If you have enough bend in your DFW axle you should be fine to set it up as a rail runner. We forgot to shave off the 1/16th on my son's car and it was fine.
