Timers for track

What’s a good timer for an 8 lane track? Our pack is looking into buying an aluminum track. The Champ timer you can buy with the track runs almost $1,000! Is there any other options that are cheaper? At that cost would be almost 1/3 the cost of a track

Parts are drastically cheap, like a 2-4 lane timer can be built for about $20.00. A lot of folks, Mid America included uses this Arduino Board based set up. There is no other way to do it this cheap and it is a fully functional timer. An 8 lane can be done if I am not mistaken.
Certainly worth a look.
