Today only (10/13/14), Woot Tools (one deal a day) is offering an 8" Wen Drill press for $61.99 + $5 shipping (or a 12" Wen Drill Press for $219.99 + $5 shipping).

I can't attest to anything about these other than the 8" appears to be a pretty decent deal. $67 for a new press delivered to your door.

I almost bought that, but then I realized that after shipping and tax (Woot charges it /images/boards/smilies/frown.gif ), I would be only 6 bucks cheaper than buying a new 8" drill press from my local Harbor Freight.

And, furthermore, I found a 20% off coupon for Harbor Freight, which dropped the price on their drill even further.

Though, maybe the Wen is better quality? Reviews on Amazon look good, though plenty of Derbyheads report good results drilling axles with their HF drill presses...

So, I will probably be buying a press from HF this week. My current one has runout like crazy and needs to be replaced.

Tax?? I've been a Wooter for ~10 years, and have never been charged tax. I just put one of these in my cart to see, and still no tax showing. Maybe something with your state and Amazon (who now owns Woot)?

I did look further at this and much of the drill looks identical to my drill from HF (which, BTW, I've been very happy with — at least as happy as a non-machinist Scout-dad can be /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif ). Although I paid ~$20 more for my drill.

It might not be for all states. I live in Maryland, and I think the state legislature has been passing bills to get their grubby little fingers on more Internet revenue. Amazon charges us tax, too.
