For those who think the Dynasty wheels aren't worth it I'm here to prove them wrong. This is also for all those derby dads out there like me wondering how to gain the extra speed. My wifes car (parent/sibling race) and my sons were the same body style, weight and axles. All prep'd the same. Only difference is I used the dynasty wheels on his and stock on her's. Her fastest run was 211.4mpg, his was 217.3 mph. Yes his also had fenders, but that didnt give him that much more speed. I'm living proof the dynasty wheels are worth it and I will buy them as long as I have scouts!

Now THAT is what I was hoping to hear. I have a set of them in my cart, waiting for me to decide if we would get a boost in speed over stock wheels with just bore prep.

It's night and day. 3 wheel cant setup will dominate. No one was close to my sons car. Except his dad's car /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif

It really depends on your rules. Our rules are very vague so I wanted the lettering to be on the outside and inside of the wheel. Your options are Rage, Nitro and Cheetah. I went with the rage because my son wanted Orange wheels. If you want the fastest with the lettering and the stock look, go with the Nitro. From the Rage to Nitro you're going from 2.2-2.4 g (Rage) to 1.3 g (Nitro). Big speed difference. When you look at the times you'll see fast times that seem close. We had our pack race saturday and saw times like 2.24 sec and our fastest 2.19. Ignore those other than for reference because if you watch a race and see those 2 times. It's almost a 2 car length win. Get the Nitro, do the bore prep and axle prep and they will be the fastest out there.

Went with the Rage. Needed yellow wheels, and absolutely stock looks.
Rules actually don't say you can't lathe or buy them somewhere already done, all they say is the normal stuff about not changing the shape or lightening. Don't say a word about the step removal, either so I think we're good to go with these when they come.
Went ahead and got the bore polish, Red Rocker and graphite, too.

Hope it all makes a difference

Pacfanweb it will make a huge difference. If you follow John's process it's really hard to lose. As the pro's say, body and weight placement are a long way down the list compared to axles, wheels and prep. Take it from me. Going off general knowledge, derby worx tools and bad advise to DD4H products and the pro's advise on here we went from a 207 mph car last year to a 215 mph car this year.

I hope so.
My son won Tigers and Pack 2 years ago, finished 2nd in Tigers at District by .003.

Last year, using a lot of the info I learned here, we had what I feel was a much better car. I had bought a test track, and it was beating last year's car by about 2 lengths. (need a timer, I know)

Then the Cubmaster accidentally ejected his car off the starting line prior to his 4th run. It went from beating everyone by like 3 cars to almost a car length. District was 2 weeks later, but I had shoulder surgery that next week after the Pack's Derby. Tried to fix it the night before I got cut on, but no luck, so we rolled with it. Wasn't competitive at District.

So we tried to do a little better than that one this year. It won at Pack again, but not by as much as last year....then again, we held a clinic and helped the other kids polish and burnish, so maybe everyone else just got faster?

Anyway, after seeing some of the cars at District last year, I recognized some lathed wheels, and decided to not be at a disadvantage in that area this year. Still going to run the stock axles...bought some of the Chinese wheels and the axles are MUCH nicer than the ones at the BSA store, and look a lot nicer with less work, so hopefully they'll be okay.

And LOL, I just noticed in my last post, I typed "Red Rocker" instead of "Rocket".....maybe because I was listening to Sammy Hagar on the way home? /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif

I can't say with the stock BSA axles you'll get as good of a time as John's 92x. I do believe if you are somehow lucky enough to find straight axles you can make them fast. That's a great story and here's what I think is happening. Last year my son won 2nd in his den and 1st overall. His average speed in the final was 207 mph. I knew nothing about PWD or how to make a car so that win was a fluke. This year he won den and Pack with an average speed of 215 mph, but the other kids he beat were 212 mph. People are getting faster. Either they are doing more research like you and I are because they want their kid to win first or its b.c you and I are spreading the word. I'll be honest the guy who got second to my son 2 years in a row is a den leader with me in the same den. I told him everything I did to my car b.c I want him to be as fast if not faster than me. I was almost convulsing when I watched dad's drill holes and pour graphite all over their car s during inspection pre race. I thought what are you doing?! I offered my help to everyone 2 months before the race and only 3 of the 34 scouts that raced took me up on it.
