It was my middle son's last Pack race. Last year he took first in Den and Pack, as well as third at District. So, the bar was set high, and I knew with two engineer dads in the Den, they wouldn't be giving the prize away.
While the races were close, some VERY close, my son took first place in both the Den and Pack again this year.
I want to thank everyone on the boards that helped my son and I build the best car we could. Without your help, it's hard to imagine the same performance and results.
Interestingly enough, it's also actually the best looking and built car yet. It's the first year out of five that we used the very first body we started with (it's also the first year we didn't use maybe four or five or more).
It ran on a wood track and I dialed in the steer to about 1" / 1'. 3.5 degree cant on rear wheels (from silver bullet). Wheels polished with DD4H #1 and Red Rocket. Wheels lathed to 1.9g ish, with NDFW at about 1.6ish.
No speed grove in the axles. We couldn't figure out how to put them in on the lathe without breaking the axles, and I decided to simply polish them on the Dremel and not use a file to try to make them this race. I don't know if that helped or hurt our speed. I didn't use the DD4H axle polish. Not because I didn't want to, I simply forgot, and we used Brasso with sand paper from 1K up to 12K and finally leather.
I'm especially happy that everything on the car was legal (as always), so we take home the hardware with honor. Thanks again for everyone's help, we appreciate it!!
