I was a little frustrated Saturday morning with the USPS being late getting my car to John. (which John nicely went back and got) Thanks JOHN!!! But I was a little frustrated so I went out in the garage and made a few car bodies! lol 40 pretty good 1/4" blocks and I had to toss about 10-15.

I used Menards Select which is Brazilian wood. I still can't find the actual name. Its very light and grain is a little closer than Pine. The weight was between 6.24 grams and 7.37 so a little heavier than Pine but you know how I cut out the body. (hope I get that right I'm still stuck in OZ).

Storage, to keep them from warping should I put them in a bag or in the house where there is a constant temp?

Maybe Rocket Car can chime in on this storage idea, he seems to be the woods person around here. I'm sure there are others too, but he is the first one that came to mind.

hmmm
The wood you bought looks like yellow pine to me, or Brazil does have a Parana pine. I don't know that much about it. The furniture I deal with usually has domestic pine in it.

You said that a plank of wood 1/4" by 1 3/4" by 7" only weighs 6 to 7grams?

P.s. Keep them in 70 degree temperature room with 50% humidity for least amount of warping.

Hi Rocket,
Do you have a humidor or something like that to keep your more precious woods at a consistent humidity?
Thanks,

Thanks Rocket!

My wife and I took a trip to Memphis in April. One of the places we stopped was at the Gibson guitar factory there. During the tour I noticed that they had water misters all around the ceiling. The guide said they did that to keep the humidity high enough so the wood wouldn't dry out. Cool place, it's a shame they didn't allow any photography.

No, I just have a humidity controller in the shop.

Now that sounds like a nice shop!

I am jealous.

LOL! I can only imagine all the great tours you have taken with the little lady over the years.

The best one was in the Cayman Islands.....we toured a green sea turtle hatchery. They let you pick up the smaller turtles out of the tanks for pics. I have a video somewhere of a turtle smacking the heck outta my wife with it's flippers. You almost can't make out it's her because the camera is shaking so bad. I guess I shouldn't have been laughing.....she shoulda picked a smaller one!

All the big box hardware stores typically have yellow pine. I went to a lumber yard that supplies a lot of the local custom cabinet shops that had white pine. He couldn't tell me if he has any sugar pine and that it would just get lumped into the rest of the white pine. I took my pick of a 6 ft 1x4 with soft grain.

I bought a lasered car just to see what its like to have one already done. (from another site, man it was nice not have to do any extra work) I was checking it out and the fricken thing was warped! Looking from the front it made a U! Well back to my stash!!
