Finally, all of the cubs I have been helping have finished their pack races!!
The last weekend in February, the first cub (Eric) raced and finished first in his den. He was soooo excited! He had everybody beat by 0.08 seconds average, and almost 3 mph on the race average. They didn't race the top from each den, so there was no Pack Champion, but he was super happy with his trophy and the chance to race in district. His sister's car was a shoe, and she was kicking some serious rears with her car too ! but someone knocked into the table holding the cars and they all hit the ground... Her DFW came out after the transition, and while the car stopped, the wheel beat two of the other cars. Her dad spit in the axle hole (I told him to use water if they got loose) stuck it back in and she still won the last two heats she was in... no proper steer. LOL That was a cool video to watch!
Yesterday, the other cub that I was helping had his race. I was kinda shocked by the whole race. They borrowed a track from somebody, and it was his homemade wood track. He decided before the race to try to teach physics to the kids. LOL The kids were wanting to race, not learn physics yesterday. So anyhow, Nicholas came up to me and said he was worried because his track was not as good as mine. (Thanks kiddo!) After I told him everything would be okay, and reassured him that fast is fast, no matter the track, he was okay. The track owner was putting the cars on the track, instead of letting the cubs. I told the Nicholas' dad... if he put my car up like that, I would have to hurt him. LOL When the finally got to the Bears, his first heat, track record... second run was good, but not faster. Third run, another track record. His car was a flat out hot rod! Then they ran the top three with all dens, and he was running low numbers again. Finally the last race was the fastest three cars against each other, and Nicholas' car set another track record!
All that was very cool! The Cub Packmaster said that if they wanted to run district, they had to leave the cars. That threw me for a loop. The last pack (in the same district) didn't have to sequester their cars. When I talked to the pack master, he said that oh well, their pack never really did well in district anyhow. I was thinking... NOT IF YOU KEEP THE CARS ! ! ! ! Anyhow, I am not a member of the pack, and don't have a kid in it, so I just voiced an opinion, then let Nicholas' dad go to bat. He was telling them that with the rough handling, and the number of races, the cars needed adjustments, tuning, and new graphite, and that can't be done when they are sequestered.
In the end, the cars got to come home with all of the kids.
Have any of you ever had pack / district rules like that?
Anyhow... Kids are all done except for quick tune ups and lubes, then they are good to go... First places and track records all the way around. Happy Kids !
Now... to get my cars into the racing leagues ! ! ! !
See y'all in March ! ! ! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif
OH ! ! ! And they both want to race in the Mid America Race ! ! How awesome is that????
