Question for any of you that manage scout races. I just got volunteered to run this years race. We have a 35ft best track with 6 lanes and older champ timer. With what looks like an older version of GrandPrix software Central. I'm looking for any a suggestion on new software and maybe gate mods to make things more efficient and more fun. The crew from last year were really disorganized. Any help would be greatly appreciate, as always you all rock/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Grand Prix user here. Once you use it a little it gets much more user friendly. Also on the start gate, insanely easy to build your own. I have built 2 one magnetic pull and one gear pull. The gear pull likes more voltage than 12v, I run it at 13.5v and it works great! The gear actuator you can buy at most car stereo shops are less than $20 and you can get the rest of the stuff at Radio shack for around another $20. One of the best $40 bucks you can spend when you are trying to tune out to the .00X-.000X it is a must!! On my scout track I also installed a start button at the end of the track so the scouts can start the race, they LOVE being able to do that!

Thanks guys, how difficult is the New Directions setup and is it pretty reliable? I started looking at the Demo version of Grand Prix 12.0, looks really cool. I might even add the video package feature for instant replay for fun/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif John, I did look at Jewekes, but their website says it's on back order for 6 weeks or more, not sure what's up with that. So I will mostly go with something else. If you guys got anymore suggestion, I'm all ears. Thanks

Quicktime, that's an interesting idea. Do you have directions to make that, that you could send me. Much appreciate it Sir

Sondo, I have the The Judge GLB system. It is a system that pulls the original latch, you just have to drill a hole in the latch at a specified spot. They also offer a more expensive system (GRB) that activates the gate itself. I haven't had any problems with mine at all and it probably took me 30 minutes to install.... it was easy for me.

I really like the race software that shows a leaderboard like John used at Nationals and in the past at the ECD. Is that part of the Grand Prix package?

That was Grand Prix I used at Nationals!

It is time for a new alternative for start gates.

John, looks like you might want to talk with quicktime and add it as product to your store/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif Seems like the market is opening up for it now

I will take pictures of both start gates that I use, it will prob. be Sunday before I can get pictures. A lot of times pictures say a lot more than I would say. There have been a few discussion's on this. On the first one I built I used 5J's info, as far as for the parts. I didn't wire mine like his though. I went the easy route.

John - we do have the prototype I had built to try also. They will be easy to replicate and sell for a very reasonable price. We can make them way more attractive since that was a prototype to replace that other stuff we used to be associated with.
