I have tried searching and maybe im using the wrong terms. What distance do most cars have between the car body and the wheel? Ive always made the base as wide as possible, especially in the back. I know they make a spacing tool. However, it seemed really close.

Not a pro by a long shot, but DerbyDad4Hire sells a product called the Owens Wheel Gap Gauge Set which includes 4 shims to help you set the wheel gap. Hope that helps.
