After quite a few inquiries about the fixture I made to measure the bore to OD concentricity of wheels, I did a small CNC run of them. The fixture uses pin gauges for a better fit in the bore. The pin Gauge is held in place with a brass tipped set screw to eliminate damage to them. This is a very compact handheld fixture that can be easily configured for right or left-handed use. $45.00 includes USPS Priority shipping anywhere in the USA. PM me for my PayPal address. Does not include pin gauges or indicator.

that is to cool, how many do you have ??

I've got 5 complete right now, and another 10 waiting on shoulder bolts that should be here Monday.

Added up to date available quantity to original post.

Very nice piece of work!!! About how much do you think a person should expect to pay for the dial indicators?

Depending on quality and accuracy, you could spend from $12 for one at Harbor Freight, to $300 plus for the Starrett I use. Pin gauges are about $3 each at McMaster Carr.

A lot depends on what you want to check. For sorting stock wheels, cheaper will do fine. If you are checking machined wheels, I would look for one that reads .0001". Give me an idea of what your budget is and the accuracy you need, and I'll recommend something.

I have had a few inquires about indicator and pin gauge recommendations, so I'll add the info here also.

Indicators:

There are a lot of imports out there, but I generally have the best luck with import stuff from McMaster Carr. Depending on the accuracy you want, I would look at one of the two HORIZONTAL models like 3295A14 here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#3295A14

LMS also has one here that's a little cheaper: http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=2875&category=1319044103

You will also need a clamp like 1987A69 here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#1987A69

Pin Gauges:

I have pins from .095 to .100 in .0005 increments that I use to sort wheels by bore diameter. When checking with the indicator, I use the pin that fits the tightest without having to be forced in. This will give you the most accuracy. I would recommend .096 .0965 .097 .0975 and .098. If you only want to get one to start with, I would go with .096

I order them here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#23065A504

When you select the size from the drop down, only .096 .097 & .098 will show up. To order .0965 & .0975 scroll all the way to the bottom of the drop down and select "other". Their you can enter the sizes. It takes a week or two for these two sizes, but the price is the same.

+1
I managed to get one of those tools from Jimmy and it is brilliant.
I wish I were around back when he was racing. He has got mad skills.

Hi Jimmy,

Hope things are good with you and you had a great Christmas and New Year. Jimmy, I'm still racing and looking for ways to build a faster car. I remember you made a fixture to measure the bore to OD concentricity of wheels. By chance do you have any more of them are what would it cost to have one made? Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I wish he would make a few more. I contacted him several months ago and he said he wasn't planning on making any. Hopefully he will change his mind /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Owen,
All the best for 2015!
I'd like to have one of your wheel concentricity checking fixture, have the indicator already. Just PM'ed you.

Maybe 2015 will see the return of Owen's cars on the NPWDRL track! You got amazing skills, been a fan for a long time.

I doubt I'll ever get back to racing, but it's cool to get back on here and see how the sport is progressing. I had enough material to finish 4 of these over the weekend. 3 are already spoken for and there's 1 left. This will definitely be the last of them I will make. This one will be $45.00 including shipping and PayPal.

Also, if anyone is interested in the best .0001" indicator out there, take a look at this one I have on eBay. If you want it, DONT BUY IT ON EBAY. PM me here and I'll let you have it for $200 including shipping and PayPal. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=201240078572

I'm kinda old school and never got into the digital stuff. The production side of my shop has good luck with Mitutoyo digital calipers and micrometers. A lot will depend on the accuracy you want...if your looking for .0001" accuracy, I would look at the Mitutoyo indicators. If your just looking for .001", there's a lot of import options out there.
