thats odd, i heard that the black wheels were much better than the colored wheels, and faster too. something about either they leave something out for the colored wheels or add something in for the colored ones. changes the plastic slightly,,,,,,

I've been looking at different ways to get wheels the way I'd like them (round)... and have also come to the conclusion it would be best to buy them. I am, however, curious about using the super light wheels.

Is "light" a big advantage? I know heavier will leave the start faster... and light will roll/spin longer... so, I guess I'm asking "where's the happy medium when it comes to cost?" Which wheel (for scout racing) provides the most bang for the buck?

Actually, you have the light and heavy effects backwards -- lighter wheels start faster, heavier carry more momentum. However, the momentum of a 1/4 oz wheel is not going to have much effect on a 5 oz car.

Our district rules are such that light wheels are verboten, so I can't answer you there. There is another recent thread in which it was surmised that the lighter wheels may be responsible for slower times due to deflection.

For scout races, it sounds like the The Dynasty BASX Pro set of 4 wheels would be the best BftB.

I think you have it backwards....

Lighter wheels have a lower Moment of Inertia, and will give you a faster start out of the gate, as compared to full weight wheels.

Heavier (full weight) will be beneficial in a VERY long race, but typically do not provide an advantage for races that are at Scout distances.

Which is better? It depends on the limitations of your rules. Most rules do not allow lightened (such as 1g) wheels. Most will allow basic machining, which will lighten them slightly, but not significantly. The benefit there is the precision of the wheels rather than the weight difference.

Hands-down, the DYNASTY wheels are the best. Find the set that matches your rules, and get them. Even the Dynasty BASX Pro with the step removed should be more than sufficient to give you the performance you need...at a price that is in the middle. If you can reduce wheel weight significantly, then you would benefit by getting the NITRO, or LITESPEED....or even INTIMID8R's.
