Wheel Removal tips

Broke the hub out of a Rage Xtreme today using it to pull the axle out. With the axle recessed in the wheel, how do you guys remove an axle and wheel without damage?

Wow that thing must have been jammed in there to break that wheel! You can guarantee you have bent axles too if it was that hard to put in. The key is to stop trying to put the wheel in if it is too hard. Relax the holes until it can go in with light to medium pressure. Let me know what you need and I will replace it for you.

My fault, I was in a rush and don't have the right drill bit to relax the hole. Good thing I only need 3 wheels to run the Outlaw class!

Good point on the axles, it was just the one that was so tight. Hope they are ok

use an old axle to relieve the hole. I hold onto an old axle with a pair of vice grips and work the axle in and out until it has the right amount of grip.

I realized used old BSA axles to plug the holes when painting. Didn't think about the smaller diameter. It must have let a little paint in.

dont feel too bad, i have done similar. while i did not break the wheel, i messed it up badly. i made a car from mahogany last year, the fir was so tight i bent up 3 axles just trying to put them in.
we have all had our share of AH man's.

Cut K-house groves in the heads of all your axles so you can twist the axle back and forth while pushing lightly on the wheel and your axles will come out fine.
