Here is what I used to make a shipping container with items already on hand.
First item: Used shipping container
Second item: A used Large Flat Rate box from the USPS
From this I cut off all of the flaps in order to make these items
Saving one of the flaps, I used it to line the bottom of the box as shown. Trim as needed.
Once all of the items were cut, save the scrap pieces for later. I then fit the cutouts inside of the box. When cutting the pieces be sure to identify which end is which, for correct alignment of cut items as shown. Note the "X" mark on the item.
Car now placed in the box as shown. Note that the front of the car was placed over the "X", this was how the car was orientated when the pattern was originally traced out. Rear wheels DO NOT touch, as it appears they do, plenty of room actually. Move car as needed.
Next thing: Take the "scrap pieces" from earlier and stack them as shown and tape them together.
Place this piece above the car as indicated below:
Next item: I had some of these laying around.
They fit perfect at the ends of the car.
Now to close the box to see how it all fits.
After closing the ends and then one of the other flaps you can see a nice and tight fit.
Total time to make the shipping container was about 30 minutes. I hope it works as well as I think it will. The true test is seeing how well it holds up to the handling of the USPS workers. Wish me luck.
