I build cars to race once a month at a local bar

My apologies. Peluso allegedly created the 'georgewebber' and 'cambellmcgrouther' accounts.

I build cars to race once a month at a local bar

Peluso got banned from Laserman's forum. It's believed, and the facts pretty well point that way, that he snuck back on with his first alter ego, "The Fonze", which swas then booted by the system as it logged in with the same IP as Peluso's original account. Suddenly, the fake '@george-webber'...

An unfortunate event this morning with Laserman's MA car

What are you getting on about? Why are you bringing me into this? My comment on your vid? I thought your vid was relatively cute. The first time. Seeing it in six different places just seemed a bit much... Like creating four different identities and then adding them to at least four forums. It...

    Rear axle - preferred angle

I think the proponents of the 1/2° - 1° angle are those who have a "wheels must run flat" rule. There is enough slop in the bores to let the wheels run flat, while still providing a bit of an angle to draw the wheels away from the body. If you don't have to "run flat", go with the 3° angle.

Use 'em. They've got a groove cut. Heads are coned and centered. And you've already bought 'em.

I was thinking kit axles. It looks like the MV axles are also unpolished— just had a groove added and the head machined. Bear in mind, that the AWANA axles are already pretty smooth. I think that I started at 1000 grit when I polished them last time.

There's a lot to unpack here... The fastest cars are still planks ("thin to win"). While the dome of lead/tungsten is still fast, it puts more air resistance on the car. Better to hollow the car and put the lead internally. Easiest method is to drill holes (no smaller than 5/16") through the...

Choosing a Pinewood Derby track for rental business

Once it's built, about a half-hour to an hour. Just lay out the sections, clip them together, flip over and attach to the transition and start ramp, and pretty much done. Spend a little time dialing in the slope and getting the timing system connected. I find most of the time is spent getting...

Choosing a Pinewood Derby track for rental business

My impression would be that the Microwizard track would be better for hauling around and setting up as it stores as a stack of flat sections. The Best Track pretty much requires two cases, one for the flat track sections, and then another for the transition curve. I've put up and taken down my...

I'm new - story of this year's derby

I really like the slo-mo shot of the finish line. Nicely done! Dennis - The 'quick start' front end is from the book "Pinewood Derby Speed Secrets". It is where you intentionally cut a notch in the front center of the car, and then add an airfoil up high in front to contact the start pin (the...

    its been a while

Unless you're certain that a 3.09 on your track is an apples-to-apples comparison with a league track, I wouldn't worry much about it. As it is, it's a rare scout car that'll run a 3.0x or less.

Opinions on Rules for Cub Race

I beg to differ. "...the surface that touches the track..." A canted wheel is riding on a 90° edge — neither the tread surface nor the inside face. Your best bet, NGEME9000 is to contact the race official and get his response in writing. You can then use that to support your case for why your...

Opinions on Rules for Cub Race

It does look like the rules are trying to say that the wheels must run flat on the track (although it would've been much plainer to simply say that). From what I can see, you can still run a three-wheeled car. There is enough slop in the wheel bores that you can drill the axles in at a small...

    COM Balance Point

If you're running the same track this year as the one in the pic, it looks like you're golden at the 1/2" COM. On a track with gaps or rough edges, you'd want a bit bigger a COM number, to keep the car planted. If you have the ability to tune on the track, make use of it. Run the same lane...
