    Darkside is comin'

Sorry I missed this - I race under the name "Inclined Kinetics" - I was racing "Baseline" in Box Stock. Hopefully I'll get my BASX finished for BASX-Am in July.

    ladder car issues

Dollars to Donuts the alignment is worse on your ladder car. What did you use to drill it?

    Darkside is comin'

That's my philosophy as well. If I can't be fast, I should at least look handsome as I slowly roll by...

    Darkside is comin'

Just push the axle in until the wheel won't move :) Basically, making a part move uses energy. If the wheel can vibrate and/or turn, it's a potential energy sink. Pinning it to the car makes it part of the body for all intents and purposes. Additional gains can be had by tweaking the angle...

    Another rule interpratation post

I concur - you can true the outside tread as long as you don't go below 1.180" diameter.

Just packed up our first try at League Racing

So much fun - I gotta work out the wiggles on the inside lanes - Inclined Kinetics Jr. will be joining me next race, so I gotta make sure my kid doesn't beat me :)

Just packed up our first try at League Racing

Fun! I just sent in my first box stock for Friday's race - thinking of trying BASX Am in June... Breaking during final wheel install? That's a heart breaker...Do you relax your axle holes after you drill?

    Boron Nitrate

My understanding is that Boron NitriDe is similar to Graphite in structure, but doesn't outperform graphite except in high temperature applications. That said, my understanding is frequently wrong.

Wheels digging into side of car

If the axles are canted and the alignment good, then I wouldn't expect such a rubbing to occur in racing. However, spinning the wheels to work in graphite, test gaps, etc, can cause some graphite wear in the side of the car. And, if the stop section was rough, or the car got bounced around or...

    Bad wheels

Well, it's 2019, almost 10 years since the "new" wheel geometry came out in 2009. And the 2009 molds came out 10 years after their predecessor came into being in 1999. Anyone know when the mold prior to that came onto the scene? I wonder if a new wheel geometry is likely to hit later this...

My 2019 Scout Pinewood Derby Experience

Yeah, the one who wins will be the one who rides the rail "accidentally-on purpose" the best.

My 2019 Scout Pinewood Derby Experience

Thanks for sharing - I appreciate the story and can totally relate. This year my son had the fastest car, hands down. Our pack is much smaller, though. I had to travel for the derby, so I couldn't be there. Turns out that was the deciding factor in the race, unfortunately. I designed the...

Race Day is Here! Final Prep Questions?

I suppose I should qualify my rationale - in our race format the winning cars typically race 20-25 heats or more. I don't mind having a little less performance at the top of the race while the graphite breaks in. Maybe it's because we're wood-tracking it, or maybe because when I add a couple...
