Need help on how to install Deleon washers

Dan, Keep in mind I'm not a league racer but I've had success using a 1/4 double fluted router bit in my drill press to counter sink the washer. Like you, I was worried the forstner bit tip might cause problems.

    Advantages of Tungsten

Several expert racers on this forum over the years have asserted the closer the weights are together the faster the car ... which is what Mojo was referring to regarding density vs spread out over a larger area. Not to steal your thread DuckofallTrades or Mojo's thunder but I was wondering if...

    Brandishing graphite

DuckoofallTrades, Here is the technique my scout has success with ... but first you have to create a jig. The Jig: While polishing a pin gauge, slightly round the ends so you don't scratch the wheel bore. Drill a hole in a block of wood around the same size as the aforementioned pin gauge...

Benefits of ultralight / ladder bodies

I asked a similar question a few years ago ... I think the answers are still relevant. http://pinewoodderbyonline.com/threads/lite-body-advantages-for-standard-wheel-base.5316/ Crash Enburn and others gave great responses ... and some funny ones.

    Brandishing graphite

Duck, try using the forum search feature. Use the term: burnish. You should get allot of results. There's more than one way to burnish and you'll eventually find what works best for you. For me it took a while to find a combination that was easy for my scout but didn't make a mess...

What qualifies as "altering a wheel."

thank you ironband. DuckoofallTrades here are the items I ordered from amazon in reference to the aforementioned derbytalk thread on measuring wheel runout ... obviously you don't need to order the same items. I ordered other size pin Gages as well. Despite being home made the setup works...

    Wheel preparation...what really works?

"I am breaking down and looking into lightly lathed matched wheels, but can't find any without a coned hub." https://derbydad4hire.com/The-Dynasty-BASX-set-of-4-wheels-W-BASX.htm If your referring to the outer hub then see the selection option for Outer Hub Fix for the above URL

    Wheel preparation...what really works?

Regarding "bracketracer" suggestion to carefully hand select the wheels (with even just a homemade runout gauge if possible) ... I took this approach with my scout: http://www.derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=6655. I purchased a digital dial indicator and several size pin Gage's from Amazon ... I...

    Wheel preparation...what really works?

B_Regal_Racing, Thank you for the simple science experiments 1 ~ 4. I've been trying and trying to come up with some simple analogies regarding what makes a car fast at a level scouts understand!

    Onto districts. Any re-pre needed?

Congratulations. Very cool car! Difficult question to answer. A few years ago my son and I did some re-prep in hopes he could pick up some speed at districts ... sadly we actually slowed the car down. I ran this years pinewood derby for our pack and a few parents suffered the same...

Lite body advantages for standard wheel base

I'm happy to say my son's car ran very well at districts ... he won all three races thanks to all the knowledge shared on this forum and DD4H products. His car was all BSA components and made mostly by him. All I did was cut the body on the table saw and supervised. Of course I also spent...

    Weight Distribution

txchemist, Very impressive weight distribution ... thank you for ALL the advice. I purchased the premium content last year and have indeed watched the four wheel touching video four or five times now ... maybe more. If I remember correctly I purchased the premium content specifically for said...
