    Advantages of Tungsten

Unless you're running in a really competitive district, my opinion is that you don't need tungsten at the Scout level. Have made some cars that were plenty fast using lead bars or even 3/8" lead rod.

Gluing the axles in standard slots? Yes? With what?

For the sake of clarification, what we'll usually do is snip the ends of a toothpick so that it's the same width as the slot, roll the toothpick in epoxy and then push it into the slot. That way the main "filler" for the slot is the wood from the toothpick, and it also helps avoid the gaps that...

Gluing the axles in standard slots? Yes? With what?

Maybe a dissenting opinion, but I prefer to just use a sacrificial nail to pre-insert into the slots which opens up the equivalent of an axle hole in the slot space. Then, as long as the axle is fitting snugly into that hole, I don't see a need for glue. That said, if allowed to, I'd much...

    CA glue?

Super Glue and Krazy Glue are just name brands of CA glue. You'll find you can get it in different thicknesses, which work well for different projects. You might try the Stikfast brand, which comes in thin, medium and thick. You can also get accelerator which will speed drying/curing time.

    DYI bore prep materials?

When I burnish graphite, I use a smooth metal pin a little smaller than the bore diameter to crush the graphite into the bore as a roll it on a semi-soft surface. A single-piece Pinecar axle works for this.

    DYI bore prep materials?

I use part #87106, which are the triangular swab. Some folks use the round ones of the same size. I don't think it matters too much. With the Tamiya swabs, you use the cotton part rather than the stem for polishing. I like this because there is far less chance of damaging the bore if you build...

    DYI bore prep materials?

I like tamiya swabs rather than q-tips for polishing the bore. You need to find the right thickness to fit in there. Novus 2 is a good polish for the bore. Some folks will use a coarser polish ahead of the Novus 2, like Novus 3 or maybe whitening toothpaste. Some folks will also use a finer...

Drilling degreed hole for steer wheel

I would drill a hole with 5-7 degrees of positive camber and neutral toe. Then I'd get a bunch of BSA axles and find the one with the most wobble and use that one in the DFW. Doesn't take much bend to set your toe. The "natural" deviance of BSA axles should do ya, I bet.

    NYC race

I guess the question in my mind is whether or not the recto-cranial-inversion of the ruleswriters in this case is going to have any real effect on the turnout for the race. I suspect that those of us in the "pinewood elite" are probably a great minority compared to those who just want to show up...

Should be very interesting to hear the post-mortem stories from those brave enough to take their kids to this race.

I build cars to race once a month at a local bar

Your willingness to out and out lie to hurt people that you disagree with speaks volumes about your character. I've said all that I'm going to say here.
