NYC race

Same car for 4 years? Thought I read that the rules said you had to build a new car every year?

Regardless, congrats to all! Wish it was closer, looks like fun.

Hey, it was good to put a face on a name Alphonso.

The rule is enforced for the scout divisions. By consensus it is relaxed for the open. With specific regards to Lightnin’ boy’s “Jack Butler” it is the gold standard around here. For us it wouldn’t be the same without it to chase. My partner’s car took second to LB (only because Micro never got his on the track to tune) and I am one of the people who have lobbied Warren to keep there year after year. NSC and PWDRacing is a very open and supportive community. The biggest cheer of the day came when LB threw down a sub 2.7xxx heat (it is a 56’ track). So if you want to come to a well run and fun scout/family friendly race (and challenge a great car and racer) come to the NSC.

No offense, but I cringe when I hear "we relax the rule." Just take it out, right?

Congrats to all. Looks like a fun event. I've only ever heard positive things about it.

No offence taken (can't imagine getting my undies in a bundle over playing with little wooden cars with my kids and friends). I was just answering a question. But yes, while I think the rule should remain for scout divisions, a clarification in the rules for open class would be a good idea...maybe a LB clause :)

Those pics are awesome Alphonso! It’s cool to see microbrush. He is a solid guy. I’ve purchased some things from him and he is honest and helpful. He knows his stuff and makes quality items. It’s cool to put a face to his name.

It doesn't make any sense. They tell you you can drill it in to make it rail ride....okay, so if I figure out the exact angle give it not only toe, but to make the FDW ride on its outside edge....how the heck is that any different than bending it? All that does is make it harder on the builder to get it right, but you can still essentially end up with the same steer that a bent axle gives you. It's just more difficult.
exactly the point! the rules seem to be attempting -in the big picture- to try and make it easier for any racer to build, this rule creates a method that is much more difficult to accomplish. it really might be accomplishing the real result. frustrate enough real builders, pass on the frustration online so fewer show up! I say ARRRRRRRR! down with the madness! Build her as she might and show up to race! That will teach them a lesson. Someone create a quick process on this so we all show up! Then the race will be over a midnight or something! I'm going just to spite! boom!

And, as mentioned before, how they check if an axle is bend or the hole is drilled canted? They gonna ask everyone with a canted wheel to pull the axle?

Should be very interesting to hear the post-mortem stories from those brave enough to take their kids to this race.

They just added some parts of the Q&A to the rules, so now the no bend axle is included in the rule section. That rule still baffles me, instead of making it easier for scouts to make a faster car they are making it more difficult, with as result the parent doing more work and buying more after market parts or non BSA tools, things they want to prevent at the NYC race if I understand the rules correctly.

And then, on top of that, making changes to the rules three weeks before a "World Championship" race? What a bunch of amateurs...

GSPD!!!

The rules are a joke, that is a given and having these rules for "Pro" Stock is a even bigger joke. "No bent axles"! Who's rich daddy is influencing these rules so there kid can win. Lol (just a thought). 3 weeks before the race is being held and changing the rules again. WOW! One thing is for sure for everyone who is going and biting there tongue and having to suck it up. Your kid will not know the difference and have a memorable time in New York as long as it stays professional and it doesn't go to blows between dads and officials. Good luck to everyone at the race. If you want a real race with professionals, try one of the PWD leagues.

I guess the question in my mind is whether or not the recto-cranial-inversion of the ruleswriters in this case is going to have any real effect on the turnout for the race. I suspect that those of us in the "pinewood elite" are probably a great minority compared to those who just want to show up and run cars. Most probably just skim the rules and show up with whatever car they ran in their scout race and spend time at the modification table if the inspector complains about something.

Maybe I'm wrong. I'd be interested in knowing what the attendance numbers are for this year, and years past.

As long as they stick with the rules they have now it should be fun, the only sad part is that we have to rework my sons car since it was using a bend axle. And we have to polish some more axles. I was hoping we would be done for the year with working on the car, but no more work needs to be done. See if we can modify his current car so it gets some steer without bending the axle. Anyone has an idea what wheel gap we should run on stock size axles? We normally run Johns TX axles with a small gap, but now having more play between axle and wheel I am wondering if we should allow for more wheel gap.

Your right VK one of us races and the other keeps on observing. "On your forum observin your cars" bahahahah
