My son ages out of Webelos this year, and I've been his den leader since he was a Tiger. Each year, he's built a car, and I've built one with my younger son who is not in Scouts (we can race in an "open" class for parents/siblings/grandparents, etc.).
This year, being our last, my Webelo is building a fine car for himself, and has really stepped it up. He's really enjoyed the build process so far (it was made easier this year since I purchased a small scroll saw).
For "my" last car, I wanted to do something a little special. I'm a fan of BMW racing, and thought this would be a fun build. I've really had a blast building this car. I suspect I have about 12-15 hours in it, but not a lot of cost. The only things extra I bought were a 1x2, 3 rolls of 1/8" pin stripe (that I slit lengthwise to make 1/16" for the Motorsport stripes), and a second set of official wheels/axles for final assembly. I reused 0.6 oz. of weight from last year's car, and made my own decals from saved jpegs on the internet, printed on adhesive photo paper, then stuck to the car and glued where needed.
Not sure that it'll be quick, but it's fun to look at. Windows were handpainted with acrylic and a brush. /images/boards/smilies/crazy.gif
