First time building a pine car with my oldest boy. Only thing I knew back when I was a cub was weight and aerodynamics. He picked out what he wanted for his design and he stenciled it on the block. We took turns polishing the axles and wheels. He did the painting and I made the racing stripe. Used what I had for clear coat which was a matte finish so it kind of turned into a graphite magnet. My son likes the dirty look now though.

Yeah it isn't lined up very well but that is the raised wheel side so I wasn't paying close attention. Testament to my rusty shop skills and using a pro body tool.

Awesome pics, great first car!!!! I learned over on Derby Talk the Idea of 'Hands on Hands' We did everything together using that technique. (well except for the table saw)

Hey Nick. Great pics, and the beginning of great memories for sure. How'd he do at the pack race?

He won every heat. Its kinda hard to see but the pic of the finish his car is the red blur. We have a small pack so all ranks competed together. There was only really one other car that was running fast. We had to have a quick talk about being humble but he did really good encouraging the other kids.

Nice! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif
