Anyone see an issue with drilling two sets of axle holes side by side?

Since my boys and I will be working together on all our builds, I'd like them to have the option to race one of our league cars in the scout race if they've put in the necessary work and so desire. Problem is, District rules do not allow cant, and axles must be from the kit.

So, I'm thinking if we drill one set for league, one set for District, we can just swap out axles and be good-to-go.

Thoughts?

Only issues I can see are: weakening of nearby axle hole (would have to drill far enough apart), may require thicker axle area in body, wind/drag in open hole while racing (probably infinitesimally small)

Thanks!

The main problem I see is that in one of the races, you're giving up motor (that is, the wheels would have to be forward from the ideal placement of all the way back). Plus, you'd need a larger than usual rear axle space, so that would spread out your weights (more force required to rotate the car through the transition).

So, yes, it would work. But it will have a small effect on one of the races, and a slightly larger effect on the other.

Right. So the next question is how close can I get the holes together to avoid some of that. I worry about the integrity of the axle holes and their ability to hold the axle if I drill too close. I bet using water to snug would have less of an effect on the wood between the two holes.

Guess I'll have to play with a couple scraps to find out.

Two cars are better than one! (Assuming we become consistent enough builders to replicate any successes.)

It still hasn't sunk in that we will now be building as many and as often as we want. YES!!!
