2 Trophies and a trip to the council race !!

Thanks to everyone on the site along the way who offered advice and well wishes, without what we learned here we would not have been competing for a district title and a trip to council. Great knowledge and great forum members helped us take home some hardware at the district race !!

It has been a couple weeks since the district race and wanted to put up a couple pictures from our day at the races. My nephew finished 2nd place in the tiger division winning 3 out of 4 heats and missing first place by .001 seconds overall. He got a second place trophy and his car is off for a trip to the Monmouth Council race this Friday. I hear they run a 49 ft track so maybe we will have a shot maybe not we will see.

My Daughter's race went equally well, she won 3 out of 4 heats in the modified division and after talking to the other dad after the race the car that was running with us had finished 4th in his rank and after his race they added another ounce of putty on the top so our 5 oz car beat the 6 oz car 3 out of 4 and only lost the 1 heat by a nose. wiggles and all. She was happy to beat the boys again this year and the next day we sent her car off to Omaha for Mid-America. She ran a couple hundredths over 3 seconds at MA and finished in the upper half of the pack but wasnt fast enough to make the finals with all the wiggle, We are retiring her car and starting to work on a new project ..... coming soon

Not a bad season for her car , 2nd place by a nose at the girl scout council race to a car that looked like it was purchased online and defended her modified trophy at the boy scout race. She keeps asking to polish axles so I guess box stock and basx amateur are in out future

Council race is tonight , have to figure out a way to sneak out of work early to get there on time. From what a couple of the council members said at our district race the district we ran in has won the council races the last few years so maybe we will have a punchers chance to finish in the money.

Council race disaster,

Got to the race and they were letting the kids re graphite the wheels and when we got to our car i noticed one of the rear axles was loose, must have gotten banged around in the impound box, we hoped for the best but one of the middle lanes had a large gap in one of the track sections and was kicking up cars off the track when we got our turn on that lane the rear axle came off, how embarrassing, we were about .02 off the fastest cars so we didnt miss out on winning because of it so no harm there. I stuffed a scrap of paper in the axle hole and pushed the nail in, it held for the last 3 heats ( 49 ft 6 lane track ) and the car made it to the finish line the last 3 times so that was a moral victory, i guess, I kept telling my nephew its ok we will try our best again next year and he won 2 trophies already at the pack and district and just being there was a great accomplishment ( especially with a car i whipped up in one night ) he cheered up and understood and was happy as could be when he got his car after the race and i told him to play with it and roll it across the mall floor. On a more disappointing note like i said the track was less than perfect they had a terrible time getting the finish line to link up with the laptop started almost 90 minutes late, and had to re run way too many heats, and the person staging the cars dropped 3 cars, breaking the last one. but i learned alot of things that we can use to get a car ready for next year. also will start working a couple months before the race rather than a couple days

I was totally on to that except i coach travel softball and will be away at a tournament that weekend or else i would be all over an excuse to hang out in NYC for the day

great job. paper, dental floss, etc....you were on the right track. each year you get faster, and as long as it was fun, it was worth it.
