2015 Northern Star Council race today.

Side questions since most on this thread are local and of NSC. Our Pack has taken an option of having our Webelos II's transition to Boy Scouts next Spring as opposed to the new rules of doing it this coming December. Does this mean my boy (Webelos I this last year) is done racing? Can he race at Districts and Council next year as a Webelos II?

My wife doesn't want anymore kids just so I can keep derby racing./images/boards/smilies/nono.gif
I may start a 4 week workshop at our church as an outreach and on the 5th week see if Warren or somebody can bring a track into the church and race down the aisle.

davet, my grandson raced our district race even though the month earlier he had crossed over to a boy scout troop. But he had won our pack race as a Webelos II. The told us that as long as he started as a Webelos II in the pack race, they would allow him as a Boy Scout at district, so I would check with your district and see if the same applies.

I know that's how it has worked in the past. With the new rules, they will transition to Boy Scouts prior to even our January Pack race.

Our first car as a Tiger was an 8-wheeled tank with turret and soldier on top holding American flag. If we have another year he already said he wants to build another 8-wheeled tank but use what we've learned here to make it sneaky fast. Maybe even lights. Whatever he wants I guess.

I thought I read that they could still participate since they were cubs at the beginning of the school year. I think 5th graders are young enough as it is to be transitioning to boyscouts. I know NSC has a history of doing pilot programs so I guess we'll see how successful it is. They still keeping the lion rank? Not sure how you guys are handling the AoL being it's own rank and completing it in half the time. I know the majority of packs in other councils usually try to get WBII's done at the blue and gold ceremony in February. With the new program, just getting done by then is pretty aggressive.

Congratulations! Also, congratulations to all the others who were there. It would have been nice to meet any of you. Maybe next year we can have a booth or all wear pink shirts or something.

I'm really kicking myself for not meeting you and davet there.

I'm not sure if they'll be able to race even tho they're cubs at the beginning of the school year. We've been told that the Council won't have any support for Webelos II's after the Dec. transition. We just went out and bought all of the pins and badges that we think we'll earn as Webelos II's because we're afraid it won't be available after Dec. Our pack is transitioning at Blue and Gold as usual but that was a decision our pack made on our own because of exactly what you said. We felt our boys were too young to be transitioning. After visiting some Troops I'm convinced our delay is the right decision.

Also, Packs don't have their races until after the first of the year anyways. This is after the Dec transition so I'm wondering if they'll even have a Webelos II class at the derby.

I wish I had found this site when we first started back in Tigers. You guys are great and I sure think a shirt with a moniker or simple button of some kind would be cool. Maybe John could have them on his site and it would have "WWW.PINEWOODDERBYONLINE.COM" across the top and under that a person could have their forum name. John could link up with a button supplier. I'd pay for one for sure. A great way to introduce yourself to people that have helped so much here.

It was cool to put a face to a name. I think I referred to you as "One of the Big Guns". Thanks for all the work you put in!

Twistediron- were you the one who checked in my Webelo II car? You looked at the wheels and started to put the sticker on and send it down the line. I asked Aren't you going to weigh it? Your reply was quick and something like it felt good to me as you looked up with a smile. It was then put on the scale and was confirmed to be the correct weight. I got a good chuckle out of that!

ya that was me...

I was totally drained after the go-rounds with a couple of people with light wheels..

Thanks for being diligent with the rules. Many kids race with stock parts. The legal aftermarket stuff is still a huge advantage.

So do you have to put the brakes on a significant amount of cheaters? One argument I hear contra careful Scout race inspections is "cheating isn't really going to be a problem." Does your experience tell you otherwise?

I saw at least 10 or more sets of light wheels, some had no clue the others just walked away and changed their wheels

In my line of work I can tell whose trying to pull the wool over my eyes because they won't stop talking even when you tell them to.
Great lessons the dads are teaching their kids.

What line of work gives you this insight into the psyche of cheaters?
