So I just heard about this race, looks like it's open to any scout, is anyone going to this race? I believe it's the first time it's been run...

Here are the rules:

Looks like it's Graphite Only...

Maybe this is something to do next year!

THAT looks pretty cool ! ! ! I already forwarded this to my District Executive, and the other Committee Member who is running the derby with me.

The one thing. It is live only... no proxy for this race.

I see some one figured out the ruled needed to be tweaked. I saw this race posted about 2 months ago and there was only 1 division. You could only use original wheelbase, had to use slots, no canting of axles and no bent axles. Only slight sanding of wheels and axles, no grooves.

I could see no way they could enforce those rules for a "World Championship"

It seems the new rules (with the exception of the lubricant) is the same as Street Pro, more or less. Still, there is no adult division. I can not enter, only my kid.

That's cool that the coordinator listened to the advice he got on the rules and he made changes. I know Maglev was inquiring about any updates so his boy may be racing in it. This year there is no proxy but I think they are looking to grow this to live up to the claim of world championship.

I sent messages to the NY race organizer and asked him to talk to Greg and John to sort out decent rules. Last year for my son to race. For the competitive races the scout has to be a district or council winner.

Problem is funding a NY trip, we already have a vacation trip planned in July for youth cricket championship in Durham. So dunno if we'll participate unless I can find a NY friend to take our cars to the race?!

I assumed you lived in the area when I saw you asking about if the rules were finalized.

There was another article just published playing up some friendly rivalry between the reigning winner and runner up of last year. I kind of thought to myself they're both going to get smoked if any scouts with league dad's enter now that the event has been advertised on several pwd forums.

I thought there were a few eastcoasters or even NY state guys on here.

I'm 2 hours south and was considering it...only if it does not conflict with the NPWDRL races though.

Again, no adult races...

EDIT: Its in 10 days. I doubt it. For some reason, I thought it was in July.

Guys! The world championships are right here. We need to promote NPWDRL!
I couldn't agree more Chris, but if I were close enough, I would be attending to get my pinewood derby fix. /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif

No doubt I like building and racing, but if John was a bit closer where I could occasionally attend live...would be the icing on the cake. NY is around the corner for me...

Maybe ya'all want to move to the Garden State? I'll clear out some pineys for you to have a place to squat.

It's for the scouts but I am more or less just curious if anyone here has a kid in the council. Being in Times Square could be a good marketing opportunity for the league. Hell, send a league ambassador to cater to the competitive nature of the dads there. I am sure there are a few that would take the plunge if it meant giving their kid a good shot at winning at that venue. I nominate Bulldog!

We will be there. My youngest Son is a Webelos I and he will be racing in the Stock Class. This was his choice as we were building a new car just for this race because of the old Rules. The new Rules came out a week ago which would have allowed the old car to be reworked to meet the Pro Stock Rules. He still wants to run the Stock Class as they do not allow multiple entries. I have been asking them lots of questions about the Rules and probably behind adding the Pro Stock Class. I just wish they would have allowed oil this year.

Do you think they are planning to allow oil next year?

I am going to ask. I just wish that there was one set of Rules that was published well in advance of the race with the 11th hour changes. I sent them our Council Rules as soon as I found out about the Race which they adopted many of them for the Pro Stock Class, but not the Oil. We had a decent Oil Car finishing 3rd overall at Council.
