2017 Nationals Wrap Up and Results

The 2017 Pinewood Derby National Championships were one of the best ever. The very best racers in every class were represented to see who would be crowned the National Champion. There was a great collection of the best racers live as well as a lot of new racers who were able to get tons of information and help that made the trip well worth it.

A huge thank you to Best Track and NPWDRL for sponsoring and supporting the event. Also a huge thank you to the guys that helped run the race. Joel (staging), Benji (pre staging), Brian, Derrick and Steve (retrieving the cars), you were all awesome. Aside from the early software issues the race ran like a well oiled machine. I enjoy getting the chance to spend time with all the guys that come live. Lots of laughs and lots of new friends. Thank you for spending your time and supporting the event. BASX Class- JBD Racing

Individual Car Statistics

I re-watched the race video (@ 1:00:27 on video) and my Basx time is wrong. My first run in Basx I was suppose to be in the red lane but I ran in the white lane and the other car that was in my lane ran a 3.009. I ended up running the white lane twice. My average should of been a 2.9466, like it really matters for me. Thanks for putting on a awesome race John!

Awesome event! Thanks to everyone who helped out and congratulations to all the winners. There were some amazing cars in all the classes. I think it's cool to picture the even more amazing people behind those cars. I can't imagine the amount of time and effort in each build. Y'all are awesome.
Those trophies look sweet!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event a great success! It was my first race and it was very cool to watch my car race on the live feed. Watching the amount of wobble in the back end made me cringe a little, but it also gave me the motivation to improve for the next race.

Agree..great race John and thanks for everything. Both of our cars were swapped in the races. Heat 16 we were swapped with DerbyBoy (B-Bird was our car), but the other heats were correct names. We also ran one car in the red lane twice.

Our other car ran under the wrong name in every heat, but the individual car statistics have the times all correct.

Thanks again!

This was an exciting event to watch on live feed. Wish I could have been there in person but had sick children at home. Congrats to all the winners.

Thanks John, Joel and the entire team of volunteers who helped out with the Nationals event. Enjoyed the races in spite of the initial hiccups. Thrilled to be a first time National Champ in the FWU class! Anxiously awaiting for the trophy to arrive by mail - they look cool in the photos. Great job John.

I'd like to thank the following vendors for the parts that helped me assemble the winning car QED.
John (DD4H) - set of FWU wheels
Gravity X - Hex-cut individual axles
Derby Evolution - Dawg laser cut body, 6-ball bearings
Goatboy - Custom combo adjustable drill jig

Special thanks to my buddy Bracketracer who has been my bouncing board for ideas, tweaking my builds, tuning and testing. Thanks to discussions with several buddies who have helped guide me over the past 3 years - John, Joel, Spirit, Pony, Brian, Paul (Gravity X), Skippy, Mojo, LightninBoy, Bulldog, Zeebzob, Greg, Ballistic, 5kids, Benji, etc. I apologise if I missed a few.

Also like to acknowledge Kinser's mentoring program that set me on the right track a year ago before last Nationals.

What an exciting Nats & great thanks to all that helped put this event together, just wish I was there to enjoy the comradery! Congrats to all the winners. It was great fun to watch the live feed. I'll be there next year for sure! Special thanks to DD4H for the awesome parts, made finals for the first time in two classes with a podium finish in one. (JBD, you're still a dirty dog!) lol!
Special thanks also to Joel for making the trek cross country to stage cars for us!

Congrats to all the winners. Wish I could have went in person for my first race. I definitely have the big and will be sending in a car or two for the Basx Am class. Just got my test track and got it assembled yesterday. Hopefully it will help a little bit with the learning curve.
