"INVADER 2" design for my next car.

Taking what I've learned from a pile of errors on my first cars and from tips here on the forums, I'm looking forward to my next car build.

"INVADER 2"
Yes, I know things like domes don't help the speed at all, but I'm interested in building a "cool car" as much or more than a super fast one. I don't have the budget or know how to really compete in speed with anyone (yet).

This design also allows me to build with minimum tools, minimum budget ($120 roughly) and still get good speed. Now I just need to work on putting together the funds and I'll be racing again in a few months.

I like your sketches. The Razor Fenders give it an out-of-this-world appearance. Looks awesome!

As a kid I was a fan of many of the custom cars of the late 50's & 60's /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

very cool sketchup ! ! !

I need to have you sketch my cars that I make for my PWD race at work !

You do SOOO much better than I do.

Cartoons and drawings are how I make my merger living /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

<in my best Robert Lee Ermey voice> You get your car on the track next month or you will be doing K.P. until pigs fly!

I'm gonna try, but money is such an issue /images/boards/smilies/frown.gif

No, I can get more fancy than that.

I don't know how long it'll take to raise the funds to build "INVADER 2" no having a 9 to 5 job, but meanwhile I've been working on the build plan.

If I learned anything from the last car (blowing my budget by a mile), it's "plan it out" before you build. If I have it all planned I'm less likely to forget something or do something out of order. I can also plan the total cost much better by knowing exactly what I want to do.

The car itself I think is a pretty easy build (especially with using a DD4H body block), the fenders on the other hand won't be so easy now that I've thought through the details.
They need to be hand made from Bass wood or something similar that can be filed and sanded well.

My next post I think will be the build sheet so people can comment on the concept, maybe improve it even.

Maybe I'll look for some sponsors too, so it's not all out of pocket /images/boards/smilies/frown.gif

I'm thinking you could market some of your work here. Some combination of "NPWDRL", a PWD car, and hot Wilma would be a top seller. /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif

The idea of some sort of derby art had crossed my mind.
Just haven't figured out what.

So while the "INVADER 2" project is still in its early stages, I've been hunting around for some DerbyWorx Pro RSX wheels in White instead of black as they would really "POP" with the metallic candy green with black paint job I have in mind and look really wild /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

The guys over at Derby Worx didn't have any in stock but have been very helpful suggesting places to look for them. I might not have the money for them until their next production run anyway, but at least I know where to look.

I've been working on ideas on how to do the fenders too.

Well I guess I'm in it now.

Got paid yesterday for a recent art job ... today turned right around and spent 90% of it on parts for my next car INVADER 2 , which I hope will be a big improvement over the current cars (I don't need to eat, right)

I considered making it an Oil car, but the added cost was more than I could cover.
On the upside I can maybe change it over to oil or even bearings at a later date (much later).

Went with a Derdy Dad block with custom drilling so it should be modestly competitive.

Being a Proxy racer and with the cost of postage I might not get to race as much as I might like, but I'll be racing when I can.
