I would like to upgrade from the 3 jaw that it came with. Run out now is around .002 and with the 4 jaw I can adjust it to dial it in. Taig has one for under $75 but not sure if it will fit. If anyone has the HF 4x5 and knows of a good upgrade or a way to fix what I have I'm all ears.

4 jaw chucks are difficult at best to set up, especially if you are talking about turning a wheel. Just a little too much pressure on any one of the jaws and the wheel gets distorted...........using a chuck, any kind of chuck, is not the way to turn wheels.

Don't forget, once you get the wheel to run true where you are indicating doesn't necessarily mean the wheel is in that chuck squarely. The bore might indicate fine where you can check it, but it can be running way out back further.

You have to get all the bases covered to cut a good set of wheels.

Thanks for the pointers, I can see I got a lot to learn. At least the wheels are cheap so I won't feel too bad about screwing up/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif
