If my research is correct the #43 drill bit is .089, is this a bit I should be able to fin at lowes or home depot?

Some Ace Hardware stores carry the wire size drill bits in my area but not all. If you need it now check ACE. If you are going to do an order from John get it from him. His prices are competitive with what I have seen looking around. If you just need the drill bit when you factor shipping it makes sense to go local.
My opinion is if you are going to drill your own holes spend the money and get the carbide bit. Just be careful with it since it is brittle and will break more easily. Still have some of the regular bits but for drilling axle holes get the carbide.
I was careless and broke my carbide #44 bit. I was substituting my regular number 44 bit only to discover it was no longer straight and was drilling crappy holes. Lesson learned do not use too much force and the carbide bit only comes out for drilling holes.
