Friday, we raced at work..... and here are the results.

I had four cars entered into the race at work that we have each year to raise money for United Way.

I wanted four trophies, one for best design, first and foremost, that is the trophy on the right with the '37 Ford y'all have seen in progress. We raised $428 in votes ($1 per vote), just on this car.

I built a Street Stock and named it Unusual Condition, that came in first. BTW, Road Hazard (my '37) came in second place to Unusual Condition.

Next, I had a car called Ghost Buster racing in a modified class... 1st place again.

Then I had the car on the left called Mellow Yellow... yeah... he came in DEAD LAST. Which is what I was really shooting for. He is a snail car /images/boards/smilies/wink.gifWhen I put him onto the scale for weight, he weighed about 38 grams. LOL They were trying to tell me that I need to add weight... I was like, "He will be fine, thanks." Then when I was staging him, the guy after me was like... I think he is backwards.... I was like, "He will be fine, thanks."

They dropped the gate, and Unusual Condition took off and so did most of the others, and Mellow Yellow just coasted down the hill. That flap came up, and about 200 people were almost all in unison when they gasped (like WTH????), then the car got about halfway down the flat when the sail went down and he started coasting. The audience was hollering, "go, Go, GO! !" When he finally finished across the line, he stopped about just shy of going into the stop section and they all started cheering ! ! ! It was very cool. I was hoping to get that kind of reaction when I was building this car, and it went exactly as I had hoped.

So Mellow Yellow got a trophy for slowest time. The class was called LAST Pass (My job is big on Acronyms, LAST = Low Average Slow Time.

So, yeah... it was a tough day at work Friday.

But ! ! ! as with all non-league pinewood derby's... I was also accused of cheating. HAHAHAHahaha... so that made my whole day complete !

Thanks guys ! Racing against all of you helped me show off my talents at work. And racing at work is what got me started racing with all of you !

peace

Hahahaha... Thanks guys !

Yeah, we get to do this one time a year. And it is always fun.

It costs quite a bit more than racing league though... That is for sure. At least it is for a good cause.

Hmmmmm... That may be an idea... Pinewood Derby Fund Raisers !

You know you're having a good day when you get called a cheater! lol

Nice work there! Congrats on the hardware and the good deed!

Ohhhhh...It was the general lip stuck out statement,

It was funny... there are no rules about axles, because they don't want to police the axles.

Sooooo... I used some of my grooved racing axles like I would put into a SS or something... They were crying because I didn't use the axles from a kit.

Not only did they pass a note to the person running the show, they sent him an email complaining about everything. They took pictures of my cars and everything to try to build a case. LOL

They complained because I used acrylic wheels when they had to buy their razor wheels from some online place... LOL

I was like, "REALLY? you are complaining because I know people???"

Idiots.... LOL

I told them if they want the trophy, they can come and get it next year.... Just like I did this year.

This was the content of the complaint he sent to the organizer.

For future judging information, I believe these axles are similar to the ones that I was discussing with you,

http://www.amazon.com/Pinewood-Derby-Steering-Degree-Single/dp/B00OBPIU2U

A quick google search under “Derby axles” is how I found them.

My worry with this kind of thing is that if people think that they can never win by following the rules then you will get less and less people participating in the event or more people will bend the rules.

I will not say any more about it and leave it to you. I just wanted to let you know what I found.

Thanks for what you did. It is a good cause and your efforts raise good money for those in need.

I may or may not participate next year but if you need another inspector, I will be glad to help next year.

You got paid for racing Pinewood derby cars..... a true professional in every sense of the word!

Congrats on the wins!

It will be even more funny if that guy complaining goes and buys those axles on amazon and tries to use them for all his wheels next year (tuning nightmare). How can you go cry about someone else buying better razor wheels then you? That is really sad. If you're up-front with the coordinator about how you are interpreting the rules and he is in agreement there should be no issue. With all the money being raised for charity, it sounds like these other guys have plenty to get good parts if they wanted to win that bad. They could also man up and ask you for help too.

Seen the progress of that hot rod myself first hand. It's a thing of beauty. Congrats Jay! You worked hard all year all year for this day and it looks like you accomplished your goal!
