Air Sliders

I'm new here and enjoying the journey building pro grade PWD cars with my son.

First off, thanks to all for the great info. PWDO is a great resource for builders looking to take their cars to the level. There's much to learn here and I'm humbled by the generosity of so many is this forum.

I'm considering purchasing DerbyDad4Hire's air sliders. Currently, I don't have a test track secured to truly test their effectiveness. Can anyone make claims on the gains expected with this air dams? My concern is the 2g or greater weight gain vs. the aerodynamic benefit. How many use these air dams consistently and what time savings can one expect from them?

If you look at the classes that allow the wheel covers, nearly everyone is running them. They really shine in traffic.
If you plan on racing Street Stock, Box Stock, Street pro and maybe even Street Rod, you're going to need the wheel covers to be competitive.

I originally planned on doing these with 1/32" lexan but when cut they're just too heavy for my liking. I've looked at your tip to cut the bottom out of wheel tubes. I end up cutting 1 mil thick blackberry pint plastic containers from the grocery store. The plastic stiff enough, very light at .1 to .2g per wheel, and clear to meet the rules. Done! Thanks again.

Ok so I was wondering about this... for Box Stock... with these sliders attaching to the side of the body between the wheels and body does that not break this rule? "No Washers or foreign material attached to side of body, between body and wheels"

My first foray into the pro league will definitely be BS for it being the cheapest to get into buying basically just the kit. Of course I am saving for DD4H's polishing kits but otherwise I wasn't going to buy anything else. But now if everyone is running these then I will get them too if it will keep me from being competitive w/o. maybe... I am mucho cheapo these days.

That rule, while it ways between body and wheels, means between the body and the inner hub of the wheel. So long as the wheel is not able to contact the shield, it is legal.


And what did I go and do? My first Box Stock race is Saturday... and I forgot to put wheel shields on my car.

I ran my first month in the league in Box Stock last July without shields or fenders and placed 3rd, so it can be done.

My Box Stock does not have shields either and I finished third at the last NPWDRL race. I may have to add some though if I continue to race in this class.

I have some GEE sliders that were given to me that I am going to use on my BS. Anyone have an idea on what to use to get the spacing correct when attaching them. I am trying to figure out how to get them centered on the axle hole so they will not rub the wheels.

I use the hub out of an old wheel. Slide an axle through the hub and install it on your car body. Put some CA on your air Sliders and set them over the hub to center them. Remove the axle and hub from the body when you are done. Be careful that you don't glue the hub to the body. John may be able to cut a hub from an old wheel.

I bought the lead wheels weights last year from John & never used them but the installation tool that comes with it is great for the air shields!
