Here's a picture of the internet connection speeds at the new race shop, that John sent me today. With a upload speed like that there SHOULD be no viewing problems. I know you had to pay a lot extra for those upload speeds but we all THANK YOU!!!

A full T1 can be ridiculously expensive ($250 / month or more) but does not necessarily give you faster speed than today's cable and/or DSL. The main advantage to a T1 line is that unlike DSL or cable internet, T1 "channels" cannot be shared by another. Believe there are 24 to a T1 line. Speed can never be degraded by others' usage - guaranteed connection speed (supposedly), which is why many businesses use T1 connections.

That's a crazy fast upload speed.

Way to go John!!!!!

I know the Proxy racers and viewers Shout out a Great Big Thank You!!!!!

Man that is beautiful! Thanks John for listening to us and making the improvements that just a couple months ago seemed like a dream.

Beatcha! Don't feel bad, it helps when you work for a tech company that trades on the Dow Jones.

Well just google internet speed test and you should be able to find a site to run it on your own connection. Most basic residential cable internet download speeds are like 30mb/s now but the upload speeds are usually only 2mb/s. So they can download stuff from the web at a decent speed but sending out a signal, like a video stream or uploading something to youtube, would be really slow. Commercial accounts you can usually get more upload since you are hosting content for customers to download. I am not sure how good the upload speeds are in a typical hotel setting. They are probably better then most residential if they host a lot of business functions but unlikely that it would be as high as what John has. Plus he won't have to compete with a whole hotel full of guests also using the connection. Since he likely has his own business account he should also be getting a more guaranteed connection speed.

OK, it appears that we have some techies onboard here. I am considering a new wireless router for the house. I believe that I know that the internet speed is only as fast as your slowest component. I've got fiber optic leading to the house with the fastest residential service and I believe that I may be hampered by my wireless router. Are there routers out there that can help my speeds out? Been looking at the WRT1900AC router from Linksys. Any good?

On a side note, I use a gaming computer to view the LIVE feed on raceday, it's fast, plenty of memory on 2 SLI video cards with 1GB, and system has 12GB of RAM

Routers, even wireless with good signal, were rated at 100mb/s 10 years ago. The bottle neck has always been the connection leaving the house.

I guess the saying goes .. You get what you pay for!!!

What in the world??? What type of connection do you have there? My download and uploads are puny compared to this.

I was at work when I ran that test. I have nothing like that at home. Honestly, I have no idea what type of connection that is - could be an OC-3 or OC-12. We used to have a number of T3 connections many years ago but it was upgraded. There is 4000 people in the building in which I work in, so I'm sure the connection is "tastey." Its lightning fast except there are restrictions as to which web sites I can visit. PWDO is not one of them...
