Hey guys,

So after getting spanked in the council race I started thinking of where I can make up the speed. We lost by a little over a car length. We did all the standard tricks, 3 wheel rail runner, black ice polish, etc.

One key area I know I can improve is the body. I left it to thick. Easy fix.

After going back an re reading the rules, I think I missed something. Other than polishing the axles bores, I left the scout kit wheels untouched because I read the rule post below as I could not turn the wheels at all to true them. But after rereading it I read it as I can turn/true the outside as long as I maintain the minimum 1.180 diameter. Is this correct?

I would read that as staying the correct diameter is the real requirement...but best to contact your race coordinator and ask. I feel pretty confident that I could spot a sanded wheel...I've HAD to several times when I've mixed them up while prepping.;)

It is very strange to see my formatting and words used, yet altered in such a way as to obliterate everything I was trying to accomplish.

This section is clearly inspired from the Northern Star Council rules, which makes perfect sense because the NSC rules are the best scout focused pinewood derby rules in the world. However, the point of the "info" boxes were to provide suggestions, clarifications, or explanations for the rule. So this same info box in the NSC rules gives examples of what is *allowed*, instead of what is prohibited. Since it lists examples of what is allowed, I very specifically added the phrase "includes but not limited to" lest anyone interpret the list of example legal modifications as the only legal modifications. Since your version flips the logic to what is prohibited (as opposed to what is allowed) but keeps the "includes but is not limited to" phrase, it basically means that any modification is potentially prohibited. It also renders the "info" boxes as just another section where rules are defined - in other words renders them pointless.

I don't believe the intent is to prohibit all mods, however. And I agree with the interpretations others here have given. Its just very sad to see the NSC model not being applied correctly.

WOW.... Way to screw up a great set of rules. I can only imagine how the rest of the rules were slaughtered. Unreal. Some people know everything about everything.

Thank you for the great input! I am currently using stock wheels. As mentioned we lost by a little over a car length and am hoping to more than make that up for next year. I think I am going to leap in an build another car and do some proxy racing before next year just to get more experience building and see where I stack up.

LightninBoy droppin' DeMorgan's law!

Use the Dynasty BASX wheels cut to 1.80 to meet these rules. If they aren’t measuring the wheels with calipers during check in, people are going to break the rules.
