First a little background. I'm 29, and last year was my first time building a car. I fell into the gimmicks of products and tried, what I thought was everything. Luckily my son took 2nd in his Den and 1st overall in his Pack with a top speed of 207 mph and 205 mph in the finals. ( I don't remember his times). Then we had districts where he took 2nd in his Den and 7th overall (it wasn't close) and times and speed were much slower. He was still happy, but wanted "the big trophy".

Then I found this site and it's awesome members. I was introduced to DD4H products and rail running ( not rail riding and bent rear axles). So this year my son took 1st in his Den and 1st overall in the pack. But I forgot to burnish the wheels... Rookie mistake. His times were: 2.235 - 2.196 (213.5 mph - 217.3mph) over 8 runs. So I burnished the wheels for districts and used monokote where the wheels touch the body. My setup was Dynasty Rage wheels, 92 axles, and fenders(not gee). His times for Den and Overall are as follows: 2.214 - 2.207 (215.5-216.3 mph) Den race. Overall was 2.230- 2.204 (214-216.5 mph). So one would think the graphite was wearing off. Here's the kicker, the top 3 from overall raced 4 more times! Crazy I know seeing as graphite is usually worn off by runs 8-10, runs 2-7 being the best.

Here was the finals:

2.208-2.207 (216.2-216.3 mph). Needless to say my son won District Grand Champion. So for those who wonder or ask if Johns graphite is the best, it's what I used. Also note, we can't graphite in between rounds. That was 1 additional squirt of graphite prior to check in. So his graphite was Great through 12 rounds, with rounds 9-12 being the best and most consistent! Thanks for the great products and help from everyone. special thanks to Kinser and 5kidsRacing for the tips. Worked great!

We were running on a 4 lane 35' Best Track. Pictures soon to come.

Nice!!!!!

From one addicted Father to another!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol What was your setup for COM and RR inches/4ft? I look forward to the Picks!!

Oh will I be streaming that car on video @ the Mid-America PineWood Derby?

COM was just over 1/2" and was 5" over 4'. Had to add a lol more steer from Pack race. No it won't be at mid America. I actually don't think this car is as fast as it could be.

Thanks Kinser. It was a lot more work than a week or 2 project like the year before. Scary part is, I think I can make it faster.

Run 1 of 4. His expressions says it all. I'm just glad I kept my phone from shaking too much.
