Any theories on why the PWD is so much more popular in the midwest?

Is it the cub scouts that are the "gateway" to the adult leagues? Religion does seem to be more important to folks in the midwest.

Or is it the accessibility to manufacturing tools and machinists that is more common in the midwest, compared to the east coast for instance?

Best regards,

Most of us just look at corn grow and need something else to do.
lol

It's an outlet for people with 'OCD, ADD, AD/HD" or men who are "overly competitive, bored, trying to piss-off wife, need a hobby so as not to piss-off wife, better than cow-tipping, constructive hobby, way to much time on their hands, looking for comrades among good Christian men, finding a MANCAVE online, reason to buy more tools, because a my piece of wood needs to go faster than your piece of wood, speed, speed, speed, learning new words like MERKIN. The most important reason is ??????? Wait for it!!!! Why not do it??

For me, it combines woodworking, cars, racing, and good friends all in one hobby. What more do you need?

It is a good question and one of many answer from Sondo
blah
... I just happen to be into other hobbies when our boys went into scouts. He dropped out and our youngest wanted to join so here we go.. Now I found a few sites as I had our PWD cars sitting on our PC table so i stare at them daily wondering how I could do this.. So i started to research and found many areas to go to. I joined several Forums and found myself to being on this one more so i call this home.. Then along came Dew, Sondo and a few others I have met and we bonded really well even though we are loud and crazy we are respectful nut cases..

I have only been able to race once with a ton of help from this Forum and people guiding me.. It is a huge rush seeing your car run with the BIG DOGS in Da House... No matter where I finished I am thrilled... I like all the folks here on the board and I enjoy chatting with them.. So when not racing I support those who are as i watch the races and chat as long as my laptop can handle it LOL ..

To me it is the friendships that build here and the ribbing we tend to poke each other from time to time .. and it is all in good fun...

We do have times we get serious and support each other as most of the guys have been together for years and us newer guys are going to be here for a long time as well ...

Glad your here and Welcome to the BEST PWD Racing League!!! John and the crew that put on these races are top notch and we all appreciate that!!!

Take care and again welcome aboard!!!

+1, +1, and +1. I mean, there are just nights where it is either way too cold or way too hot to go cow tipping.

I mean seriously, if we lived on the coast there'd be just too great of chance of our mobiles being jacked up and our cheetas stolen.
beatup
Besides, I'm pretty sure our great pal butterball is from the Midwest also.

Welcome to the party!

Papa V you truly have a way with words and everything you said is true. You and Sondo and along with many others are truly my brothers.

Thanks fellas,

I was a little nervous to join this forum as I don't have much experience with moving parts, but I have to say that you make a guy feel welcome. I hope to be racing with you and against you soon, and for years to come.

Best regards,

The best advice I can give is to just jump right in. Start with one car and go from there. Chances are you will be last or nearly last in the class you decide to race in. We have all been there...some of us still are...lol. Its a very rare bird that is a contender from the start. There is no shame in a poor finish, trust me, there will be racers willing to answer any questions you have and help you improve

If your lucky sometimes you end up in the middle of the pack right of the bat. Then can't advance for 2 races.

Thanks for making me look up the meaning of the word "merkin". That will definitely come in handy some day. no wait! What a great name for a car. I sure hope it hasn't been used already.

It has been used by Mr. Chips.

I haven't raced here (yet). Summer is always a busy time of year for my clan, but when the new season starts, I will be on track. I think the reason for the Midwest thing is that during the winter, there is not a lot to do as far as yard work, etc. They had me at MERKIN. It's all about the MERKINS.
