I've never seen this asked before.

How fast do you turn your axles when polishing? Drill press, set as fast as it'll go?

Or dremel/die grinder, really spinning them up?

We've always used the drill press...and even hand drills before I bought one, but just got wondering what everyone else used.

I use my hand drill in a clamp, at its highest speed. Not certain what RPM that is, but I think you can polish axles at high speed without worry. Not gonna melt or deform like a wheel bore would.

If you cannot reach the speeds mentioned above you'll need to polish just a bit longer with each grit. As you are not reaching the same surface speeds with the lower RPM drill motors.

My drill press maxes out at 3k rpm. I do polish a little longer. Start at 10-15 with 400 and 60 then by the time I get to 12k I do around 30s

geez, I have been doing it for several years on my little drill press, and the highest speed is 3050 rpm.
I do have an air die grinder that I could use, I would just have to have someone trigger it for me. maybe I'll try that
