I was kind of caught off guard after finding out we needed to get a car turned in by the end of the week for our local Council’s championship race that’ll be Web Casted. We had our pack race back in February so felt it was a good idea to throw on some new wheels with a quick axle prep.

Our Council/Pack opted to go with basically Box Stock rules to help level the playing field and we usually see some fairly stiff competition at the finals. The axles are definitely dialed in as far as polishing goes, but I’m concerned that my Jig ain’t what it used to be.

The question I have is how long is a can of Jig-a-Loo good for? It just seems like it isn’t the same as when it was new. I’m assuming it’s probably due to the loss of some accelerants, but is it worth using or just go with some DuPont Chain Saver stuff. I also have a can of some MaxPro Super Lubricant, but I never had a chance to do any testing that o wanted to do since it’s not the usual Heavy Duty stuff.

I thought this year was going to be a wash so it was nice to have the Area Council onboard with making it possible to support the remaining Pack races and hold the finals.

That Big Boy is fast one, but I had no idea how challenging box stock was going to be. The big surprise was when my non-aero car beat some razor cars in the dad’s race.

I really enjoy pinewood derby season and the plan is to keep it going through NPWDRL sometime in the future.

Our Pack track seems to run on the fast side, but here’re the times Big Boy ran back in February.

Back to the original question about using some old Jig-a-Loo. I also have a can of Sailkote that I’ve heard good things about, but I’m not sure where it stacks up against the Jig.

Sailkote will eat wheels, if you don't let it flash off. I've only used it on graphite cars, and I feel like Pledge is better.

If you are using graphite, lemon pledge is a lot easier to use. I haven't seen an advantage to using Sailkote over pledge.

At least I’ve got the construction and drilling down so the construction part is relatively quick. Now I’ve just got to dial things in to help squeak every little bit of speed out. Still an addiction, but not as bad as the first time the bug hit me.

I’m using Holy Water oil and I was mainly concerned that that Jig goes bad over time. It’s spraying fine, but it just doesn’t seem the same as when it was new.

We were lucky enough to go up against a Champion League Racer’s boy the last three years at the finals which really forced us to step up our game. We got so close to winning last year, but his son has since moved on from Cub Scouts so I’m hoping we’re the new “ones to beat”.
