So working with my kids on a few cars. We've already polished the axles. We used the following, 400, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000 Grint sand paper. I then used a 3000 grit cloth, a 5000 grit cloth, and finally a wet leather strap. All sanding was wet.

Now while we were getting colored wheels at the scout store, then had an axle straightener, a d an axle bending tool. 2.5° and 1.5°

Do I need to bend and then re polish the axles? In the future should I bend first?

I assume polish than bend since polishing a bent axle would be a challenge. I'm using a dremal to spin the axles as I sand.

Thanks guys! Heres a pic of the cars so far.

How would you polish once it is bent? Polish first. Try to make sure you don't mark up the area the wheel will be riding.

If you bend the axle by holding it on the end where it goes into the car, then pushing on the other end I wouldn't worry if I scratched the axle, as the wheel will ride on the other side of the axle, and not touch the scratched side. (for front bent axle)
